Over the course of the approximately 6 months that I owned my 300m, I had the screen replaced twice and the battery once. This was necessary despite very cautious and gentle handling. The design was to make it light and have lots of features -- and it is ...
Compared to other competitors, 300M is very well connected, and highly configurable. Here are the standard features: *SD card and firewire. *A very light 2-hr battery, well positioned in the back. *Really bright 12" lcd. *External monitor can be ...
Pros: Small size
light weight
Nice screen Cons: worried i may lose it due to size ;)
not sure about the durability
I've had the 300m for the past month and use it daily. It has been very good to me. I'm not sure about the other reviewer but mine is nearly silent, maybe 20-25db at max. I use the laptop mostly for programming, web surfing, and email and have never had a ...
Pros: Light Weight, Compact Size, Excellent Wireless Capabilities Cons: Included battery has short life
I bought this laptop from the Dell Outlet store about 8 months ago and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. First of all, it was a factory refurbished unit, and I'd like to point out that it has been nothing but reliable for me. To top it off, because ...
This is a class act. Beautiful to look at, handle and work with. It is solid yet light, came with a nice set of applications, and has not given me problems (WinXP has something to do with that:) Wireless set-up was easy (though the Intel LAN 2100 3A could do with a better range) and it has traveled with me to multiple destinations around the US and the globe without any worry.
PROS:
Small, Light, Attractive, Solid/stable, Software apps (MS-Office was included), Wireless, 1394/Firewire, good support (Dell)
CONS:
External drive, battery is a little light (recommend a spare), Wireless range should be better
300M: Sleek and Stylish Ultraportable by j6chan ,Dec 13 '03
Pros: Stylish, Sleek, Does the job Cons: Expensive
The Dell 300M is an ultraportable notebook geared towards the travelling professional who only does email and word processing. It is ultraportable because of its weight (3 lbs) thickness (less than 1") and display size (12.1" XGA). On the hardware side it comes with a Pentium M processor, 30GB HD, 256MB RAM and wireless network card (Centrino). I recommend upgrading the network card to to a G adapter. This is an upcoming standard that is five times as fast.
I bought this for my mother for Christmas but after using it a couple of days may consider keeping it for myself :) Something this small can go with you anywhere. It also looks great and I get a lot of envious stares everywhere I go. The only downside is the price - this notebook starts at $1500.
After trying this one, you'll never get another heavy laptop! by nindigo ,Jul 22 '05
Pros: Extremely portable, fantastic for most purposes, not terribly expensive Cons: not for gaming
When my girlfriend first unwrapped her new 300m, I was almost appalled at its small size and lack of an onboard CD-ROM drive. However, I soon became jealous that she was able to carry her computer with her everywhere with very little effort, while I lugged around my 8-pound behemoth.
The lack of a built-in CD-ROM is hardly noticable (very seldom do we actually need to insert a CD while on the go), and the system came with an external DVD burner! The space and weight savings make it well worth the sacrifice; at just shy of 3 pounds, the 300m is actually lighter than some of my college textbooks. It is fantastic for taking to internet-ready cafes and using for school work.
There was one problem with the LCD which seems to be a design defect (the "smiley face" that presses into the screen), but one repair from Dell took care of that, and it has not returned.
If you are looking for a hardcore gaming machine, don't buy one of these. But for every other light-duty purpose (document creation, word processing, websurfing), the 300m is simply outstanding!
