Pros: Excellent price point, improved focus, VASTLY improved image quality, ISO 3200 Cons: Still very pricey for what is basically an "amateur" base camera.
I love Canon lenses. First and foremost, that's what any person looking to enter the photography fray should be investigating FIRST. A lot of people make the mistake of getting caught up in "technical specs" of a camera body when it's not even the most...

Pros: Everything! Superb build, excellent processor and sensor, excellent autofocus. Cannot speak highly enough. Cons: Don't be silly! That would be churlish!
The Canon EOS 10D is not just one amongst a myriad of digital cameras, this is one that stands head and shoulders above most others, certainly above anything in the same price bracket. Some people make the big mistake of comparing this with the 300D ...

Pros: Excellent build quality.
Excellent image quality.
Interchangeable Canon lenses. Cons: Compact flash write speed could be improved.

UPDATE: Due to the arrival of the 20D, I'm changing my rating to 4 stars. For its time, the 10D was a great camera but the 20D addresses many issues with the 10D, so I'm reserving my five star rating for the 20D. I've had this camera for months now ...
Pros: Great price, excellent performance Cons: Not the lightest camera I own

Pros: Great pictures, fast, features to allow tons of creativity that only an SLR can provide. Cons: Could provide a bit more sharpness to images, but not really so bad.
An excellent camera at the price point. Nikon is going to have to catch up big-time. I love how fast it gets ready when you turn it on, and between shots. The controls are very easy to learn, especially if you've got prior EOS experience. Its heavy...

Simple Operation, Outstanding Results by sprtsjunkee ,Mar 30 '04
Pros: Ease of operation, quick start up guide, clear descriptions of dials, acronyms, and weight. Cons: Too many picture taking opportunities, not enough time!!!
I bought this camera to start doing some sports photography. i was looking for a camera that could hold up in a variety of situations like swimming pools, soccer pools and basketball courts. this camera does it all for the user who has some knowledge of digital photography, but not as extensive as a pro. Little things make a difference and I appreciate the attention to detail, like the clear LCD screen is easy to use and operate. I don't have to have a PhD in photography to understand the user's manual and the tools.
Overall, an outstanding camera that's worth the investment. Hint, I splurged for the Canon L series lenses and am extremely pleased with the overall performance. Don't skimp on lense quality or you'll miss some of the range that this camera offers.
Pros: This camera is easy to learn. Works just like the EOS cameras you know. Cons: I don't want to go back to film!!
I've been involved with 35mm photography for about 15 years now, and have used Canon equipment the whole time. For my birthday this year, my husband bought me the Canon 10D, the day before heading on a two-week vacation to Canyonlands and Arches National Park systems. He also purchased a 1gig CF card for me, which turned out to be a godsend. It lets me take 500 high-res files without stopping to download. The scary thing is, I've learned how to take that many in a day!! Translate the film development costs!! Picture quality is great - as a Christmas gift for my husband, I had a picture of his car, taken with the 10D at Arches NP, enlarged to 23"x30", and matted and framed. It turned out beautiful!
Great images, great convenience. by maxi_mark ,Dec 17 '03
Pros: Quality that matches film, great convenience. Cons: Sensor is not full sized.
I've used 35mm cameras for 30 years, and I was always devoted to traditional film cameras, including the Canon EOS series. The Canon 10d is the first camera that has convinced me to move to digital. There are still some limitations in terms of dynamic range, but all in all the quality and convenience are hard to beat.
I just wish that the sensor would cover the full size of a 35mm frame, so that my collection of Canon lenses would be completely useful. This is especially a problem when you want to go wide angle.
Great camera but very unreliable by ben_black1 ,Aug 07 '04
Pros: Terrific design
Intuitive controls Cons: Made very poorly
I will be the first to say that the Canon 10D is an excellent Digital SLR. Readers should know, however, that there are significant quality problems with the camera. About two weeks after my year-warranty ran out, a number of pixels blew on the chip that have left a black spot on all my images. When I took it into the local Ritz dealer (I bought the camera from Ritz online), I was told to simply buy a new camera, that fixing it was too expensive (about $800) to be worthwhile. While I was standing there discussing my useless $1400 camera with the nice Ritz associate, two other people in the store commented that they knew people who had suffered the same problem.
Ritz responded by offering me a new body for $1399 and then recommending that I buy a two year warranty for an additional $318.00. So, that would mean I would be spending over $3000 for the right to shoot a digital SLR.
I believe that Canon is suffering from quality problems. So, I highly recommend you either buy a Nikon or buy the extended warranty.
excellent camera with rugged build quality by mmreed ,Sep 03 '04
Pros: Rugged build quality, wide lens selection, canon reputation Cons: poor battery life, weak built in flash
I own a Canon 10D and have used it often. The unit has never left me down. It is built like a tank, made to withstand the tortures of frequent use. Parts of the body are rubberized for a good grip and added protection. The unit has a metal lens mount and durable controls. Many people compare this unit to the Canon Digital Rebel, but there is no comparision in terms of build quality. The 10D is far superior and merits a slightly higher price. With the release of the Canon 20D, prices on the 10D should drop soon.
The unit takes excellent photos and offers the controls that most pro shooters will want. It also is easy enough for amatuers to use without the need of reading a tech manual.
The info screen is even backlit for night use!
Built in flash is on the weak side, but serves basic uses. You will want a hotshoe flash.
Battery life is a little poor, so make certain to have extras. The unit uses Canon rechargables, not standard batteries which is a drawback.
Amazing Camera Across the Board by wwco ,Jun 17 '04
Pros: Easy, High Resolution, Sharp Images, Rugged Cons: Hefty price tag at $1499, but well worth it. Camera body only.
Wonderful picture quality, great instructions, tons of accessories, great software, easy to use interface, and everything from total automatic down to 100% manual for everything. Works with Windows, Macintosh, and plugs directly to the television. Loaded with features. Built in flash. Removable lenses. Control the camera from a computer. Make panoramic shots. Take super long exposures. Backward compatible with Canon lenses you have from film SLRs. Fantastic product for taking superior quality stills. In fact, this is the camera that many photo studios use for portraits.
Great Camera for Pro, SemiPro by nijuma ,Jun 07 '04
Pros: Resolution enough to print 11x14 portraits. Fast, lower price, great lenses available. Cons: cost, lower megapixals compared to new SLRs
This camera has worked beautifully in all the ways I've used it. I've done weddings, senior portraits and family portraits with this and have very few complaints. Some say that the E-TTL flash system is poor but I have had GREAT results with a flash bracket, 550ex and a pocket bouncer. I'm looking forward to the next in this line of cameras, hopefully a little more megapixels.
Almost Professional Series Digital SLR Camera by lv_designer ,Sep 16 '03
Pros: - Great quality images.
- Point-and-Shoot functionality or Fully Manual exposure control.
- Exchangeable lenses.
Cons: - Very slow download of images.
- Viewfinder a little small.
I have been waiting for this camera for a long time. A digital SLR camera with enough resolution to print sharp 8x10s for under $2000. When I saw the advertisement on Apple's web site, I knew I had to have it!
This camera is like many mid-range film SLRs, but in a digital form. You can use it as a point-and-shoot when it's on fully automatic, or if you want the creative control, you can manually set aperture, shutter speed, film speed, and so much more.
There are so many things this camera does, and does well, that I can't list them all here. Some of the things at the top of my list...
- Great quality, high resolution pictures. - Easy manual control over exposure. - Continuous shooting (up to 9 frames in 3 seconds). - Fast shutter speeds (up to 1/4000 sec.) - Auto exposure bracketing.
