The ultra useful Powershot A300
by csifreak ,Jan 04 '05
Pros: Overall a good starter camera Cons: Size, screen size
I got this camera 1 year ago and I love it! It has so many features and I absoulty love the panoramic "piece together" function so you can make a 360 degree view. The LCD screen is a bit small but it still works. Toghther the camera is quite big but it does the job. The built in speaker is rather pointless but .......... what ever. Not too crazy on the orange light sensor. It makes it take a bit longer for the picture but it does a good job for lighting correction. i use Ni-Mh batteries so it takes me about 5 hours minimum to drain the batteries. But otherwise it is not a bad camera.

I love my Canon PowerShot A300
by mrs-wright ,Oct 26 '03
Pros: Takes pictures in color, black and white and sepia tones. Clear pictures. Has Macro ability. Cons: Shutter lag is annoying.
Easy to use, not too compact but small enough to take anywhere, album quality pictures and nicely priced. I was reluctant to give up my SLR camera because of the incredible quality of the pictures you get from an expensive manual camera with attachments. With my Canon PowerShot A300 I not only get great pictures, I can print them out myself. I can take a picture in black and white, sepia and color without changing film or switching lenses. This is the best anniversary gift I ever received.

Complex Digital Camera - Good Price
by harleejake ,Sep 23 '03
Pros: Great Price with many extras. Cons: Very confusing
I would like to write a positive review on this camera but I found it very difficult to figure out and I returned it. I found the instruction sheet to be very confusing and since I purchased it online, I could not get personal help at a local store. There were so many features that I'm sure would be excellent for someone who likes a lot of bells and whistles. I need a digital specifically for use on eBay and the Canon was much more than I required.

Amazing Quality at an Awesome Price
by questman77 ,Oct 01 '03
Pros: Super High Quality, Great price, Amazing color, easy to use Cons: Lag time between button press and actual picture take, sucks batteries fast
I purchased this camera for two hundred dollars and immediately began taking more pictures than I ever would have with a traditional camera. The price tag is well worth the extra memories you will capture. The quality is amazing, especially when set on the highest. Huge picture size and crystal clear resolution. A lot of options to explore for different photo techniques. Plenty powerful for an amateur to intermediate photographer, and probably a complimentary item in the arsenal of a professional. A great buy if thinking about buying a digital camera. I recommend buying a 128 Megabyte memory card upgrade.

Terrific little camera
by LWidmer ,Oct 27 '03
Pros: Excellent clarity and color. Cons: Delay between pushing button and photo being taken.
Thanks to the reviews here, I purchased this camera. I'm not disappointed. In fact, I'm more than happy with this camera.
My main reason for buying it was for business. However, I "tested" it on a trip to Italy. The picture quality is amazing, as is the color range (which can be a problem for some cameras). I love that it has the "movie" option, where you can shoot a short flick (20 seconds).
The zoom is quite nice and afforded me a chance to shoot some far-off scenes up close with some great clarity.
Cons--while zooming, the photo in the viewing window is fuzzy, so you're not sure it's going to take a nice picture. Also, there's a delay between the time you press the button to the time the shutter takes the photo. As a result, a few of my photos were fuzzy because I'd moved. For this reason, it would not be a good choice for taking action shots. However, the quality of the photos make it an exceptional choice for just about every other use.

Canon quality at Argus price
by wolfman224 ,Oct 14 '03
Pros: IMAGE, IMAGE, IMAGE - it's a Canon for less then $200 Cons: plasticky feel in places
The A300 brings Canon down to the anyone can afford basement price. Probably as a knockon effect of the new Digital Rebel this sub $200 camera features 3.2MP, a quality lens and manual or automatic modes. We just bought 4 for the school where I work.
The don't have the carved from metal feel the higher up Canon's have, but they do have a helluva good image.
The A300 runs on a pair of AA cell batteries (rechargeable kit is available), it does offer digital zoom - but I hate what that does to an image so I ignore it.
As a point and shoot digital snapshot the A300 is a cool camera, high quality images, fast refresh rate (2 pix per second is possible) and some video modes it is on the well recommended list for our teachers. I hope to see the Reble push more prices down.

Just plain great!
by jonyi89 ,Jan 17 '05
Pros: Great Quality pictures; very portable; great value. Cons: Does not have a very long battery life.
This camera realy surprised me. I got it almost (or maybe more than) 2 years ago. It still works great, and gives me great quality photos every time. Just sometimes it lets you down in the dark...and also sometimes surprises you.

Perfect little camera for the point and shoot user
by slinky77 ,Aug 05 '06
Pros: Easy to use; durable; great daytime or indoor lit photos; easy to download photos Cons: Goes through batteries quickly (I highly recommend a few rechargeable); not great on action shots
I received this camera as a gift and it has been ideal for my needs. I've gotten great photos out of it in all day time light and it has been easy to download photos. If you're looking for a family camera that is easy to use and durable this is definitely the way to go.
While I hate to admit it, my 9 year old has dropped it twice and.....ahem......I managed to get it splashed by a whale. Still works like a champ.

GREAT, except for one thing
by ariadne9 ,Jul 21 '04
Pros: easy to use camera and software
durable construction
quality prints
short video with sound
Cons: slow to snap pictures and to start up
I got this camera for Christmas and overall it's great. It's easy to use and it produces prints of excellent quality. It also has a short movie recording feature with sound which is also cool. The only problem I have with it is that after you turn on the camera it takes about 20 - 30 seconds before you can take the first picture. Also, you have to hold down the shutter for quite a long time before it takes the picture (people I take pictures of get mad that it takes so long).
It also has a lot of features that allow you do a fair amount of advanced photography, even though it is a point and shoot.
