Bought this vacuum in October 2005 and we still love it!

It only broke once, but that was my fault. While cleaning the rollers, I forced the plate back on the underside and it broke off a plastic piece. I called Dyson and they told me to bring it to my local Best Buy and they'd fix it for free - which they did!

Suction still as good as when I first bought it, too. We have a Spaniel dog and long-haired cat and it works great on picking up hair.

I've used all my attachments as well-including vacuuming the lint from my clothes dryer. Easy to see when canister needs to be emptied, too.

Pros: Excellent vacuum!! Worth every penny.
Cons: Emptying the canister can be very messy. The wand is awkward to use at first.

After my Hoover started to die I decided to get a Dyson. My friend had one and I was impressed with the cleaning capabilities. I have two dogs and a lot of pet hair. With my baby on the floor I wanted a vacuum that would clean. I did the old test. I vacuumed my floor with the Hoover just before I used the Dyson. The new vacuum picked up so much dirt and hair you would think I hadn't vacuumed in ages. I love it. You can see the carpet change color after you vacuum. You know you are finally getting the carpets clean. And the bonus is that it is a lot quieter than the Hoover. The only thing it takes getting used to is the wand and emptying the canister. Boy can that be a mess. If you have a lot of dog hair the dirt tends to settle in the canister and you have to tap it to release the dirt. The only other problem is if you have loose fibers in the carpet. The vacuum tends to pick them up and wrap them around the cleaning bar while making an awful noise.

Pros: Great suction,ease of use,lifetime filter, no more bags to buy
Cons: Price,but if you want the best

My oreck died and I needed a replacement,I wanted to see if the hype about Dyson was true. To my amazement it performed very well, great suction. I did not have any trouble with the attachments. very easy to use, The mini turbine pulled so much dirt from my couch I was shocked.The Dyson was vastly superior to my old vacuum.I definitely love the DC14 Animal.

If you don't have one you are missing out. This is the most incredible vacuum I've ever had. I had a Kirby that I thought was doing the job...WRONG!!!! I could have bought my Mom, my sister and some of my neighbors a Dyson with what I paid for the Kirby. Dyson is such a great vacuum that even my daughter loves to vacuum now. No reviews could tell you or show you visually what this vacuum is doing until you see the empty canister filling up with what you can't see that is hiding in your carpet. There's no words to describe how efficient and satisfactory this product is. If you don't have one GET ONE!!!

Pros: Easy to use, effective, efficient, easy to clean, and I actually have FUN using it!
Cons: Occasionally pet fur will build up at the intake but it NEVER clogs it up.

After years of frustration and stress over the overwhelming amount of pet fur (2 large dogs & a cat) that accumulated in our home, I was seriously considering minimizing the pet population at our house before I bought this vacuum cleaner. We had already removed any and ALL carpet and replaced it with tile & hardwood laminate in an effort to reduce the amount of fur and pet dander in the house. We even bought a heavy duty shop vac to 'suck up' all that was not nailed down (which by the way, didn't even last a year under the harsh conditions in our fur-filled environment!).
After hearing from others about the Dyson vacuums and researching the reviews online, I was convinced that we needed one for our home. "YOU WANT TO SPEND HOW MUCH FOR A VACUUM CLEANER?!!!" is a direct quote from my loving husband. After convincing him, we were off to the store and we have NEVER looked back. It is most definitely worth the initial cost when you consider the amount of time and frustration you are saving yourself in the long run. Whether you have one pet or 10 you need this machine!

Pros: Suction is great. Machine is fairly light for a vacuum.
Cons: Somewhat pricey but for the quality you get, it is hard to beat!

Have only had my Dyson for a few days but it works great...exactly as advertised. Works better than any vacuum I've ever used/owned.

There seems to be some misconception about the hose and wand. It appears some reviewers have not read the manual throughly. You DO NOT HAVE TO USE THE WAND WITH THE HOSE!!! The attachments will connect directly to the hose so that the wand can be disconnected and the hose will (amazingly) be more flexible.

Pros: Value for the money,product actually does what it says it will do.
Cons: Cleans to well, ha ha.

I used to rave about my Sears Kenmore Vacuum but no more. My son has been telling me to save my money and invest in a Dyson. We finally took the plunge and bought the Animal DC14. I had just vacuumed with the Kenmore before finding the Dyson on sale. We immediately put it together and fired it up. I was shocked by how much the Dyson was able to pick up off of what I thought was my freshly cleaned carpet. For those who say it cost to much...don't listen. For those who say it doesn't work on carpet and hardwood floors...don't listen. For those who say it won't clean underneath tables and things...don't listen. This will be the only vacuum you will ever have. This is coming from people with asthma and three very active West Highland Terriers. I actually feel guilty about donating my old vacuum.

I have an old Kirby, and thought I'd get a new one when the sales rep came by, but was put off by the price. Just got home with my new Dyson, and the stuff it sucked out of the carpet - even where the Kirby rep just did a demo - was unbelievable. I'm also impressed that the Dyson does all the Kirby did, but with fewer attachments, easier use, and a lot fewer pounds to lug around...not to mention a much smaller price tag. I'm never going back; I love this thing! The house even smells better!

Pros: Removes animal hair quickly. Does a great job on carpet. No bags to buy.
Cons: very expensive but you get what you pay for.

Wow I just bought the Dyson animal and what a job it did on my carpet. I was amazed at how good it cleaned the couch and took off the cat hair and dog hair like magic. Its the best vacuum I have ever purchased and its the most expensive vacuum also I have purchased.

I read all the reviews on several different models and decided on the animal. I have a cat that sheds ALL the time. I absolutely LOVE the vacuum!! I'm not a huge fan of housecleaning, but I love to vacuum now that I have a vacuum that really works!! It was so worth the money. Some of the reviews on here talk about how the accessories were a little difficult to work with, but I haven't found that to be the case at all. I would totally recommend the vacuum. Spend a little more now and you won't have to buy another one!!

WOW! I once read this thing sucks, but who woulda thought.... I had just vacuumed with my Eureka whirlwind, and my Dyson came in; boy was I shocked at the stuff this thing picked up. Not to mention that when it is time to dump the canister the bottom falls out so you can seal it in a bag (unlike the ones you have to turn upside down and shake, getting dirt everywhere.) My house has never been cleaner; you can even feel the difference when you walk through barefoot.

Needless to say, the Eureka wound up relegated to the garage sale pile. Glad I spent this much money (something I was leery about.)

Cons: Falls over easily when using the wand. Attachments fall out easily.

This is absolutely the best vacuum I've ever used. I thought my Hoover was doing a pretty good job. Having a light carpet and a white dog (American Eskimo) was I wrong! From the first day I used this vacuum to now (5-month test), I can say I'm pleased with the cleaning capability. Each time I use it, the canister is full of hair and dog food particles (she uses the carpet for a dinner plate, too). And, my carpet looks great. I don't mind at all vacuuming more often as the Dyson Animal is light and easy for me to carry up and down the stairs. It was tricky learning to use the wand, but it is no longer a problem.

Pros: Fabulous suction
Cons: Poor operating instructions/not so easy to figure out on your own.

I bought 3 vacuum cleaners (2 Hoovers and 1 Dirt Devil) over the span of 1.5 years. None of them worked for me. The hoses where constantly getting clogged and losing suction. I heard that the Dyson Animal was good but I didn't want to pay $550 for it. After the 3rd vacuum died (the day before hosting Thanksgiving), I was so frustrated I gave in. The final result? I can't believe how happy I am. I LOVE my Dyson Animal!! I have a dog and it gets up her fur, remnants of toys chewed, etc. It's wonderful. My only complaint is that it doesn't come with good operating instructions and it's a bit complicated to use.

By the way, I bought all 4 vacuum cleaners from Bed Bath and Beyond. They took back all 3 of the ones that didn't work, even one that was a year old (I didn't know I could bring it back). They rock too!

Cons: doesnt reach under the bed at all- you will use the hose instead

I love to vaccumm and watch all that stuff go in the chamber. The vaccumm has the best suction I have ever felt and doesnt lose suction. The filter being lifelong is true. Wash and your are back to day one suction. Easy to attach parts but this vaccumm does nt reach well even under my high bed. So you will wither need to use the hose onlyf or that or a canister.

Pros: Easy to unclog at the bottom of machine.
Cons: Can not adjust the suction power, and sometimes it is too powerful, grabbing curtains ect.

I love how quick it is to get in the hard to reach places and the suction is great. It picks up very fine particles, but not so great on dog hair on carpet. Dog hair on hardwood floors and leather furniture comes right up with no problem.
