Pros: depth, value, graphics, visual atmosphere, VIP system, some innovative controls Cons: Some minor gameplay issues, some framerate issues on the PS2, lack of fan presence

Pros: Decent Graphics, Game Modes, and Gameplay Cons: Control Around the Basket, Bill Walton, Not better than NBA Live Series
The ESPN 2K5 series of games was one that I really hadn't had any sort of disappointment until I had the misfortune of putting ESPN NBA 2K5 into my PS2. The latest NBA game I had played before this was NBA Live 2003 and I loved that game to death. It had ...
Pros: Quite a few. Graphics, sound, controls and a huge amount of features Cons: Room for improvement always there, but cons are few and minor
Sega surprised us all when they dropped ESPN NFL 2K5 considerably earlier than they used to. They also surprised everybody by putting a 19.99 $ price tag on it. One just had to wonder, is there anything wrong to explain this drastic drop in price. The ...
Pros: Graphics, Smooth Gameplay, It's Inexpensive Cons: The Announcers
ESPN NFL 2K5 deserves much more props than it currently receives. The Madden Juggernaut had just dominated the football genre for about as long as it has been releasing games, but ESPN NFL 2K5 really challenged it for the title of top football game that ...
Pros: Arguably the best football game on PS2
Great graphics, gameplay, and sound Cons: Minor offensive and defensive gameplay issues
A couple of annoying glitches
ESPN NFL 2K5 is hailed by some critics as a "Madden killer." It had everything needed in a football game: solid gameplay, great graphics, and most importantly, a budget price. When EA snagged the NFL license and essentially killed the possibility of ESPN ...
Pros: Graphics, The players look real, in Madden the players look like they have down syndrome Cons: Dan Stevens and Peter O'Keefe actually have down syndrome. They are annoying
I started my game playing football career playing Madden as most of us have. I picked this game up and have not even looked at Madden yet and the Maddens are collecting dust on the shelf. This game has it all. I noticed with Madden you can throw 80 yard ...
Pros: Graphics, Gameplay, Price Cons: Online play is shaky every now and then
I decided to try the ESPN line of football games this year and WOW was I impressed. Originally I bought it with the intent of playing it for a month before Madden came out, but once I played a few games I was hooked. I think the graphics are better and gameplay is too. I still play online often even though football season is now over. I was sick of playing Madden online and having a lot of cheeseball's doing cheap stuff and there are a lot less of those people playing 2k5 online.
i have madden 2003 2004 2005 and i have espn 2k4 and 2k5 i hate the espn i got them as christmas presents every year and the espn sucks i bought the madden before christmas because i couldnt wait the espn controls suck and the graphic arnt as good as madden and the amount of features doesnt comeclose to madden's features sega's espn is a good game dont get me wrong but is doesnt come close to EA's Madden if i were u and i had the extra $20 id pay for madden 2005 because you'll be disapointed by espn trust me its not as good as madden i play madden around 15 hours a day on franchise mode i do tournaments all kinds of stuff and i hate it on espn it doesnt have the same amount of fun in it
Cheaper than Madden, and just as good. by pitpndlm ,Sep 03 '04
Pros: Graphics, complete control, options, options, options! Cons: People don't look at it because it doesen't say "Madden" on it.
My wife bought this game for my son (15) and I as I indicated that I'd like the new Madden game, but with it being $50.00 at BestBuy I refused to consider it when it will be $5.00 on the internet in 4 months.
As an alternative, we looked at 2K5. I have 2K1 and liked that game well enough, and for $20.00, it was worth the chance. Overall, it is fantastic. There are all kinds of customizations and choices having to do with trades and drafts, lineups, etc. It truly simulates a real world situation concerning managing a pro football team.
The game itself has graphics as good as Madden, and this one has more control as far as defense (my specialty) than 2K1 could hope for.
I could spend a few pages describing the specifics of the game, but it is best summed up this way:
If you like Madden, this is just as good for $30.00 less!
Pros: Better than Madden, 30 Bucks Cheaper Cons: Underprice can lure people to think is "cheap/bad"
I know now how we've overpaid to EA all these years. Sega is proving how to make an SUPERB! Game without asking for a Fortune. Even if this was priced at $50 like Madden does, I still would be buying 2K5 hands down. Go For it. I dare you to compare.
Better then Madden (for the most part) by donut_man23 ,Sep 15 '04
Pros: $20, VIP mode, online better, $20, defence is good, did I already say its $20 Cons: offence not as good as madden, controls
If you bought madden just buy this to because its only 20 bucks. The online mode is better then madden and I think the defense is better with the tackling at least. On madden you use the right analog stick. On ESPN you hold down square to wrap around them and you tap it to do a hard hit. The one place where I think it struggles is the offense (mainly the controls). The controls aren't as fluid and loose and easy to use as madden. I mean come on you have to keep tapping X to sprint. The trainging mode isn't as indepth as madden. Theres also a great VIP feature were you can decorate your crib and play against celebrities even though they always repeat the same things. But the #1 reason is why its better is because its 30 bucks cheaper (40 bucks cheaper if you get the madden limited edition).
Best Sports Game I Have Played In Years by safrey ,Sep 06 '04
Pros: $16.99 at Circuit City; Lots of Fun Cons: Haven't figured out how to adjust the lineups to reflect cuts and trades.
I have not bought a sports game in many years. I love football, but I generally have not enjoyed playing Football games since the old Tecmo Bowl for NES. I thought that I would give this a try for $17 and have played it for many hours in the last month. I love the game play - and as I was learning, I just let the computer do a lot of work (like defense for me). I am a die hard Eagles fan, and I love being able to play the other NFC East teams, or play some classic teams from 25 years ago.
Bottom line is that it is tons of fun, and for $17 everyone should have it in their library.
he shoots he scores great game by jtpeters10 ,Jan 17 '05

this game has commentery from hockey experts gary thorne and bill clement. It's like your watching espn. Great graphics hard hitting checks. If you live hockey buy this game.
