Pros: Good sound quality, 8.5 hour battery life, variable bitrate Mp3 and WMA, bargain price.
Cons: USB 1, must use AC during computer link, inflexible data structure and software.
I recently decided to get a hard-disk based MP3 player, as a way to more easily organize and carry m ...

Pros: Price, Nice Screen, So Much Unheeded Hype
Cons: USB 1, Proprietary software, Poor Navigation, Corrupted Filesystem Problems, Poor Customer Support
I bought the Treo when it was first sold online it was much hyped by everyone from message boards to every available online outlet. Unfortunately all this was pure hype this player had to be the worst gadget I have ever gotten for a present. The thing was difficult to sort files had the worst firmware imaginable. I returned it about as quick as it took to actually ship to me and with the refund got an Archos Recorder which by no means was great but it was easy to use since it basically sorted by folder navigation. this thing sorted by id3 tags and it did this very badly. The usb 1.0 interface was slow and cumbersome and the price of this product did not make up for the fact that you had to use software from editial to even copy any music to this box. It's
the epitomy of everything wrong all at once

Good mp3 player for out-of-box users
by fallinglizard ,Nov 06 '03
Pros: Stores 4000+ songs. HUGE 15gb hard drive. Carry case included.
Cons: Kinda bulky.
Kind-of bulky unit. Weird looking. Everyone asks me what it is.

For straight out of the box use this one ROCKS! Huge 15 GigaByte memory (stores over 4000 songs). Easy to load music files. Software included to rip your CD's. Rechargeable battery.

Player is 4.5 x 3 inches. Other players are smaller but have no memory capacity or are upgradeable for $$$.

Absolute Crap

Pros: cheap to purchase, lots of space
Cons: awful interface, no longer supported by Edigital, slow
I emailed Edigital for some support on how to copy files from my Treo 15 to my local hard drive. Every time I try it locks up. This is the reply I received from the company:

As of July 1, 2004, e.Digital has ceased providing customer support, accessories or repairs for our previously discontinued line of consumer products (MXP 100, Treo, Odyssey 1000 and others) in
order to focus our engineering and technical resources on supporting the growth of our OEM/ODM business.

Thank you for your understanding, e.Digital Corporation

So essentially to anyone out there who purchased one of these inevitable paper weights, Edigital valued you so much as a customer, they stopped supporting your purchase!

Much more affordable than an iPod
by xero69 ,Oct 09 '03
Pros: low price, long battery life, backlit display, sound quality, case w/belt clip
Cons: crappy ear buds, USB 1.0, software needs improvement be sure to update firmware
I bought this puppy on NewEgg.com awhile back and I love it. It came with it's own nice little case and some very crappy ear buds. The sound is great and the built in rechargable batteries last a LONG time because the unit only spins up the hardrive to copy songs to RAM, and RAM uses a LOT less battery power than the hard drive does. I feel sorry for anyone who got an iPod because they paid more than twice what I did for half the storage space. Using variable bit rate encoding one can fit a LOT of music on this little gem.

The software takes a bit of getting used to but for me it helped me organize my music collection. The firmware update helped a lot and now I can drag and drop without having to launch their software.

If you want buy it now because they are becoming scarce due to popularity and price.

You get what you pay for...
by johnybox ,Sep 09 '04
Pros: Price
Cons: Battery Interface File Structure No id3 support
It may be cheaper than an Ipod or Iriver hard drive mp3 player, but it is not even close when it comes to performance. It's USB 1.1 so it is slow to tranfer files. The file structure is awful. You can only go two folders deep and files must be in the second folder in. It doesn't support id3 tags which can be a pain. The interface is far less than perfect. My battery has died after about 20 recharges and they no longer sell new batteries. So I am stuck with a portable mp3 player that has to be plugged in. It was one of the worst purchases of my life. I would spend the extra money and get an Ipod.

I was thrilled to get my Treo' 15! I thought it would be several more years before MP3 jukeboxes came down below $200. I got mine for $169 with free UPS ground delivery. It has easy to use software. The manual is written in an easy to follow common sense manner. Many manuals I have seen on a variety of products have been so poorly written they were almost useless. It just seems to have every function and property that I would imagine a fine player should have. It is a shame that I cannot articulate these characteristics in a more eloquent manner. The Lithium-ion battery charged in a very short time and lats an exceptionally long time. I would say something like 12 hours. I have songs for days!! That 15GB memory is HUGE!! I paid almost as much for my tiny 64Mb player almost a year ago. I would highly recommend this product to anyone!! Long live e.digital!!!!!!!
