Pros: Cordless, fewer false alerts than others, has earphone jack built in Cons: Low volume(not an issue with earphone)hard to see display sometimes No POP alert
So, having used a V1 for some time and acknowledging it is an excellent detector, I felt the need to go cordless mostly for use on my motorcycle. I had a Beltronics 945 once (not a good radar detector at all!!)and for bike use it was handy. I had used ...

Pros: It's cordless Cons: Cheaply built, you'll read the cop's badge number before it detects his radar
I wrote to Escort and tried to contact them several times regarding the unacceptably poor performance of their Solo radar detector but to no avail. This was one letter:
Dear Sir or Madam:
I have been a long-time owner and fan of...

Pros: Great range, portable Cons: Expensive, alerts could be louder
For a cordless (even for a corded model), this Escort satisfies even the most daring of speeders and car enthusiasts. The selectable alerting capability (Highway, City, Auto) allows the user to avoid many of X band's alerts caused so often by ...

Pros: Great range, covers all bands, gives option of corded or cordless operation Cons: At $329.00 it's a little pricey.
There seems to be a lot of debate as to whether or not the cordless Escort Solo S2 delivers the same ...

Pros: Good detection range and the back light and programmable features are convienent. Cons: The controls are too small and no detection arrows like the Valentine 1.
I purchased a radar detector from Radio Shack about 6 months ago for about 100 dollars. I thought that it was a decent radar detector at that time. But after using it for a couple of week i began see that the detection range was horrible. When i ...

Pros: Cordless, very user programmable & easy to use, virtually no false signals. Good X/K/Laser reception. Cons: Marginal Ka reception without the optional cord, which makes it acceptable.
The Solo 5110 cordless radar detector has been in both my cars for about 6 months now. You can program this thing to suit your tastes in the areas of volume, automute, 4 brightness settings, 5 radar sensitivity settings, start-up mode, different sounds,...

Pros: Size, No cord needed, Easy to use Cons: Need to purchase batteries
This radar detector is one of the best investments I have ever made. I decided to buy one since I usually like to live in the fast lane. With the push of a button, you are in business.
It has plenty of great features. It detects K-, Ka-,...

Escort S2 Radar Detector
by n9mxt ,Nov 15 '03
Pros: Superior detection capabilities. Loaded with customizable features. Nice design. Cons: None
Basically the Escort S2 is the best cordless detector you can buy. I've owned the Escort S2 for a few weeks now and I must say I am quiet impressed. The unit gives LONG range warning so that it does what its designed to do, eliminate speeding tickets. The unit has tons of features overall and I am happy to say its well worth the money, you will not be sorry you purchased this product.

effective help for a speeder
by luv2roq ,Nov 27 '05
Pros: it works well for me Cons: none i can think of.
This is a good unit. It took me a little while to get used to the different tones or pitches the alerts use for the various bands, but its very helpful. I drive in a familiar area, where the false alarms are common to me and I know when to ignore alerts and when not to. I will tell you, I have been saved many many times with this little machine.
As far as the unit itself, it has volume control and the display can be dimmed so as not to be so obvious in the dark. It has auto mode or can set it to highway or in town. I just use auto.
I'm sure this has paid for itself tenfold - with all my savings on tickets! (Now if i could just stop getting tickets for not stopping all the way...:-)

Good for some, not for all
by needforspeed70 ,Jul 02 '05
Pros: Cordless, Good range on fresh batteries, Upgradable Cons: Week signal with week battery, display hard to see, easy to steal, Useless laser detector
I bought this radar detector from Sharper Image, and it works great. I was not to crazy about the fact that it is cordless. Being cordless the signal gets week with the battery life. Also the LCD screen makes the Escort Solo hard to see. It lights up at night, but not very well. I do reccomend this product, but only if you want a week signal with battery life. The laser defense is also useless, unless you add the optional Escort Shifter to it. All in all it works great, but sadly I traded it in for the corded version after about fifteen days of ownership.

poor performance
by pargerous ,Oct 25 '03
Pros: convenient, easy controls, looks good Cons: lousy range, performs like detectors half the cost
This is not a good detector, a surprise considering it is an Escort. They screwed up this time, which is why they came out with the Solo 2 so quickly following. Very poor range, first alert within eyesight of the cop. Got two tickets with this, one on a busy interstate with cruiser parked on the shoulder, other with cruiser coming in opposite direction in broad daylight. I started slowing down before the detector alerted!
Avoid it

not too good
by balloonman ,Jun 06 '04
Pros: no wires, can be mounted more conviently Cons: shorter range than other escorts
I got the this detector. It's nice not to have a cord hanging in the way, pulling it off the windshield. But, it's range is definately less than the other escort detectors.
On the positive side, I haven't noticed a problem with battery life.

Excellent range and functionality
by prelupino ,Dec 12 '03
Pros: Cordless, many functions, detects all bands/laser. Cons: Can be a little too sensitive for door sensors. Pricey.
The Solo S2 is very easy to use. At first, I was worried about learning to use all the different functions, but I have found that the factory settings are the best so I didn't need to change anything. The range is very good for a cordless but works even better with optional power cord. It has detected every speed trap I have come across. The only problem I see is that it will detect the occasional automatic doors at gas stations or walmart. Other than that I should have got one long time ago and saved myself some tkts.
