I HATE this printer, please help me shoot it.

by jmorty732 , Nov 14 '04
Pros: Print Quality Features (hard to find a printer that offers this combination of features)
Cons: Unit is unreliable Extremely high cost to operate Customer Service is Horrible
I was very excited to get this all in one machine. It had all the features that I was looking for. When it printed the first test page (the one with the billiard balls), I was amazed and happy. I researched this machine and read all the specs including ...

Fall From Grace

by sar-1 , Dec 07 '04
Pros: Can be used to reenact that scene from the movie Office Space
Cons: Mechanical failure, poor drivers, bad tech support, expensive ink.
This multifunction office device offers a spectrum of features that can suit the needs of most home offices or small businesses. Unfortunately, this machine has been plagued with problems. First off the drivers have never worked properly, although they ...

A great multifunction machine!

by keithnteri , Oct 14 '03
Pros: Excellent print quality, 2 sided color copies, Speed
Cons: No 2 sides faxes or scans, No xD card slot,
This multi function machine does just about everything one could want and does it well. It is a large machine, about the size of a standard laser jet printer. I have owned the Office Jet since April. Printing: The output of the prints from this Offi ...

Not reliable; Pretty good print quality, but expensive to maintain

by kae36 , Nov 03 '03
Pros: Prints well with pretty good quality
Cons: Can't refill the cartridges, hangs occasionally, poor tech support expensive maintenance. NOT RELIABLE
I've owned this printer for about four months now. I was impressed with some of the features, but have become more disappointed after using it for four months. I have come to expect good things from HP, but over the past several years have notices some ...

Poorly Engineered

by goldbuffalo , Oct 16 '04
Pros: All-in-one function is good.
Cons: It shakes violently as it prints. The print heads are easily broken.
Within two weeks of buying a brand new HP 7130 All-in-One multifunction printer, the printer broke itself. There are three small black plastics hooks that catch the top of the paper after a new sheet is fed. There appears to be insufficient tolerance ...

What a fiasco!

by sergio11 , Jan 27 '07
Pros: Good print quality, legal size scanner would be an advantage if it worked
Cons: Poor quality, not reliable, breaks easy, the scanner works only occasionally.
I thought it would be nice to have an all-in-one unit, for space considerations. First I had the problem of the drivers. Neither my computers nor my print server recognized the 7130 or the drivers that came in the CD. Eventually, tech support told ...

Had the 7130 for about 3 years

by jpgeorgia , Jul 16 '07
Pros: Nice features. ADF, duplexer, fax, photo printing.
Cons: High purchase price/operation, unreliable hardware. Expensive to fix. Only basic features supported under Vista.
I owned the 7130 for about 3 years. I paid over $400 for the printer. After the first year, the fax modem stopped working. I tried to find a local HP-certified printer repair shop and finally went to Radio Shack. They shipped it out for repair and it ...

What a piece of...
by johnlemay ,Jul 19 '04
Pros: Fast, has everything you could need in a SOHO machine.
Cons: Quality control seems to be slipping big time.
Maybe I got a dud, maybe they are all just garbage - I don't know. I've had this machine for less than a week. The ADF doesn't work, so I can't fax documents unless they are one page at a time. I've even gone back to Staples and checked the one they had on the floor to see what the problem was. Looks like a gear issue - something is installed wrong in mine.

Second, every sheet of paper fed into the machine gets bent at the top center of the sheet where the feeder picks it up. Everything I print gets wrinkled. Not good when I'm doing documents for clients or printing invoices.

I'm giving HP another chance. I ordered another machine - same model - online (the local stores don't have them) and I'm going to try swapping it out. I know the older G85/G95 machines were a lot more robust than this, so I'm hoping it's just this one machine and not the whole line!

You'll be sorry!
by apikalek ,Dec 26 '04
Pros: Copied well, when it worked.
Cons: Expensive ink, poor quality product.
After very light use hardware failed. Carriage jams, gears grind. Technical support was unable to fix it. Customer service completely useless. Too much money for a very poor product.

Review of the Hp 7130
by langstonokc ,Jan 04 '07
Pros: none
Cons: terrible
We have the fax machine hp 7130, and the machine has not worked properly since we installed it. We would like to know if you have a techincan locally in Oklahoma City that would come out and give us a quote on how much it would cost to repair the fax machine. I can not enough rate the machine because it will not work properly.

Bad experience with Office Jet 7130
by jeffdobkin ,Oct 14 '03
Pros: I was excited to think this would meet all my needs in one machine
Cons: It failed miserably in printing, software, technical support, receiving faxes.
This printer wasn't even close to doing what it should. After 100 hours of trying to get it to print Appleworks Documents, and several hours with HP technical support, I gave up. Now I own a $500 paperweight.
Sure, it prints. From the wrong paper tray. One page at a time. 30 page document = 30 one page documents to print. In print preview, it shrinks each page 20% so my letterhead is an inch and a half down from the top. Very unprofessional.
HP technical support: I couldn't get the help I needed, nor would they put me through to a supervisor. They blamed everything on Apple and Appleworks, although it's the newest version. At best, the printer still wouldn't print on the last 3/4 inch of the paper.
Save your money.

Greatest Printer ever! Replaceable printheads
by mblue1946 ,Jan 28 '05
Pros: Replaceable printheads, great quality prints, photo cards, very fast, great HP support
Cons: absolutely none!
This is the greatest printer we have ever used! The replaceable printheads are the greatest! I did live chat with HP and they couldn't have been more supportive or helpful or nicer, stellar rating! We are buying another one for our office. We have Brother MFC5200C and it was broken down 3 times in the first year (& is broken again) because of printheads. At least the HP you can replace them. Don't know of another model that has this feature.

Very useful, great for home office and photos
by toshineon ,Feb 24 '04
Pros: It makes my home office a reality.
Cons: Should tell you when your hardware can't handle a scan job.
This printer and its software have made my home office! With my computer, cell phone, and this printer I've got enough equipment to do business from home.
The software is very easy to use. I can fax, copy, print, and edit photos with relative ease.

Scanning is a little slow, but I do tend to push all the quality levels to their maximum. I'm embarrassed to say that most of my scans crash my computer (not enough resources). I guess I'll find the right quality to scan at soon.

This unit killed my support for HP products !
by humoruss ,Apr 07 '04
Pros: Like multi-function possibility.
Cons: See above.
Poor tech support, doesn't seem to print color transparencies consistently, jams more than expected, manual doesn't have enough solutions. Uses a lot of ink it appears and they are expensive to replace. I never know what to expect in terms of problems.

Worst Buy of My Life
by lynnaraneta ,Jan 11 '05
Pros: Print is average but not worth it for the cost of maintenance.
Cons: Money and time consuming. Replenish paper and expensive ink ALL THE TIME. Please DON'T BUY!!!
I bought this for my home-office to replace a Brother Laser Jet Black and White printer. It costs me at least five times to maintain this HP Ink Jet. Furthermore, all I remember doing is refilling the paper (due to its small container) and the expensive ink. If I bought this for about $350, I must have spent at least $2,000 in ink over the past year and a half. This is where they get you!!! My consumption is a little bit above average but this is certainly too expensive to maintain, compared to my past printers. Big rip-off from HP. Will never buy their brand anymore...obviously, they don't have the consumer's interest in mind.
