Bought the Presario 1525US for college work and personal use in Jan 2003. Supports USB 2 (now using 12 ports easily). Works well enough for most graphic-intensive apps (CAD rendering, some games...). Upgraded to 1GB RAM (from 512MB). Couldn't use ...
Pros: Fast processor, 15" SXGA display, DVD/CD-RW, 32MB dedicated video memory Cons: Build quality
I bought my Presario 1525US last January after more than two weeks of shopping for the best DVD/CD-RW-equipped notebook that costs not more than $1500. With Pentium 4 processor of 2.4GHz, this laptop has the fastest at that time. I found the 15" SXGA...
Pros: Performance, Styling, Reliability, Screen and Graphics Cons: HEAVY, typing position, 1 PCMIA slot, 3 USB ports, location of ports.

For the money this has been a great laptop. When my desktop took a sudden crash I needed a computer in a hurry for my online classes. I needed something that would demand reliability and had desktop performance to run several applications at the same ...
Pros: It had a 2.4Ghz processor, plenty of speed. Cons: It sped into a wall.
This was the worst computer I had ever owned and used. Over the years I have owned six computers (including two desktop Compaqs), now on my sixth, and used a multitude of others on a daily business. The Presario 1525US was to be my school computer, ...
Pros: Amazing price/performance and very robust for business computing. Cons: The fan runs too much to cool the P4 processor and this is irritating.
I had a need for a high function laptop last summer. I bought this laptop at auction in Aug/03 for $1100. It was loaded with XP Home, 40 GB and 512MB RAM. It serves as my main business and personal machine. I run it on a wireless network with a tower that has 60GB and store lots of data there to avoid carrying it when I don't need it.
The CD burner is great along with all the XP burner functions. The DVD will not run properly for movies without being on full power. This is becoming less of a problem as airlines become equipped with plugins at the seat. But it was a major disappointment.
I had an HD actuator fail and HP restored it at their mail-in center no problem. I was without the machine for 10 days but most of that (5 days) was the courier!

I bought my 1525US last 01/14/2003 after more than two weeks of shopping for the best DVD/CD-RW-equipped notebook that costs not more than $1500. This was the fastest laptop (2.4Ghz) available at that time. I found the 15" SXGA monitor great for watching DVDs. I also like the way speakers are placed at the front edge of the notebook. It let the speakers play unobstructed even when the screen is closed down.
I've seen and used various Compaq models before, but never had I seen as cheap-looking (feels cheap too) as the plastic materials on this model. I also noticed that the screen assembly is not well-fitted into the main body. Everytime I close down the screen to turn display off, I have to put some weights on top of it to apply enough pressure to that tiny button which deactivates the screen.
