Pros: Sound Quality, Ease of Use, True discrete output Cons: Price, and that's about it.
After doing extensive reviews and trying the Onkyo 501 I bought the TX-SR601. Here's the system details: I have a small room with hardwood floors, wood beam ceilings and wood shutters. Tough room. I bought the Bose Acoustimass 10 III. Ok, Bose haters, I ...
Pros: Superb quality of sound, sophisticated features Cons: May run a little hot if you crank it up
I purchased Onkyo TX-SR601 receiver to replace my 12-year-old Sony receiver (which is still working just fine, but is hopelessly obsolete). After doing some research I decided to get an Onkyo receiver, since Onkyo offered the price / features / brand ...
Pros: Sounds, Wattage, Design, Easy to use, Connectivity, Great value for your money. Cons: None (really, none).
I don't want to repeat the former comprehensive reviews, but I must say that so many can't be mistaken. I wandered around so many stores, surfed many A/V websites and audiophile forums on the net, and after a while I knew that My next A/V receiver will ...
Pros: Great sound, learning remote with macros, great features for price. Cons: Poor arrangement of buttons on remote, can't switch components with only one button.
I'm not going to write an extensive review but since I thoroughly utilized all manner of review websites, I wanted to give something (albeit late) back to help others in their search for a receiver. I'm just going to point out a few of the pros and ...

Too many reliability issues. by tinkerman ,Jul 07 '09
Pros: Good sound. Cons: Poor reliability.
Poorly designed remote.
Poorly designed user interface for menus.
My 3 week old 601 also had a defective headphone jack. Upon plugging in Sony MDR-7506 headphones I was greeted with extremely loud sound levels. It was as if the speaker amps were powering the headphone jack. I immediately unplugged the headphones, lowered the volume level to it's lowest setting and then repatched in the headphones. Now the headphone jack was completly dead, no signal at all no matter what I did. I exchanged the unit for another 601 since it was only 3 weeks old and still returnable.
Now, 5 years later, one of the solenoids is slow to click on, so there is a delay before the left channel works, sometimes a few minutes.
I'm not convinced that Onkyo makes reliable gear.
My Kenwood receiver had lasted over 15 years without any problems. My Sansui integrated stereo amp is coming up on 20 and still going strong.
