Pros: Decent Price, Good Picture. Cons: Breaks soon. Takes too long to turn on, almost 10 seconds. Poor remote layout.
EDIT 02/18/2006: There's a reason that these were cheaper than the others... they don't last long! Today my TV just quit working. Dead. I did a Google search {search for 'Philips 27" won't turn on'} to see if the problem was easy to fix and found ...
Pros: Good sound, affordable, nice picture Cons: No power after the LABOR warranty expires. Repairs cost $80 or more per incident!
I purchased this TV the day after Thanksgiving, but did not open it until Christmas. The TV worked just fine for about three months. However, less than four months after being put to use, the TV does not work. It does not respond what so ever. It ...
Pros: tv worked ok when it worked Cons: broke under a year old, $5 part to fix $80 labor to fix it
I bought this tv (27" CRT flat screen)on 12/26/04 and it died on 12/24/05...not even a year old yet. Since Philips only offers a 3 month warranty on labor...I was screwed. I called Philps and talked to them and they said since my warranty is up there is ...
Pros: Nice while it works Cons: Stopped working after 4 months, replacement TV of same model lasted half that long.
Like most of the other posters here, our set pooped out after four months of use. We called Philips and after a total of 8 hours on the phone, they gave us the name and number of an 'authorized' service center-an hour away. When my husband walked in ...
Pros: Nice picture/brightness, looks attractive & clean Cons: POOR reliability, weighs a ton
I first bought one of these TVs in October 2004. I was able to connect it quickly, but I found that when I turned the TV on, it made a very loud humming sound as it powered up. It got so annoying I exchanged it for a new one ofter 3 weeks. The new one ...
Pros: HA HA HA Cons: Customer Service, doesnt work!
To say that this has been the worst purchase of my life would be a understatement. I am now working on my 3rd television from Phillips/Magnavox in 6 months. The first blew in 2 months. The 2nd showed up 3 months later looking like it was dropped off ...
I agree with all the other reviews - don't buy Philips! by eklektika44 ,Oct 21 '06
Pros: Nice picture quality and attractive styling Cons: Slow to display the picture while it still works... then dies for good.
Like many others who've reviewed this TV, I'm in the market for a replacement much sooner than expected. I bought this TV because of the reasonable price, decent size and attractive styling. But it stopped working a few months after the 2-year warranty expired. What a rip-off! My previous TV from 1987 still works, so there's no reason a TV can't last longer than the memory of paying for it. The only good reviews I've seen were from those who've written in less than a month after purchasing. My only consolation is that most other victims only got a year from their Philips, and I got two! Buyer Beware!
Stay away from this TV. It worked one day by rjblt ,Apr 16 '05
Pros: None that I can think of Cons: Only worked for one day, Bad tech support, expensive repair
When I bought this tv I got a good price on it(around $200). I wound up moving a couple of times after I bought the tv so it just sat there not being used. Now that I am in a place I will be a while, I got it set up.
The TV worked for one day!(and was just days out of warranty) I watched one movie and a couple of tv shows, the net day I went to turn it on and it made a pop sound. All it would do is turn on for about 3-4 seconds and shut off.
Philips technical support was a joke all they said was hold the power button while plugging it in. Then gave me phone numbers of some repair shops in the area. I took it in to get an estimate, $200 ! the same as I paid for it. Well needless to say I will be buying a new tv and it will not be philips.
Got this model and went out in 3 months. Got the run around from Philips until we got them to finally replace it (7 months later.) We had this second set for about a year and now its image is starting to go. Price was good, but not worth all the problems. Also Philips customer service was nice but very slow.
Pros: - Good picture for price
- Good sound for price
- Attractive cabinet Cons: - Completely and utterly unreliable
If you enjoy lugging your television around for repairs, by all means purchase this one. I experienced a high-pitched whining sound from the unit within two months of buying it. My repairs, although covered my warranty, were inconvenient and time-consuming -- we did not have the unit for about a month. Now, less than a year after the initial purchase and first repair, the TV no longer turns on. More repairs -- and this time, the labor won't be covered!
Don't make the same mistake I did -- RESEARCH your television BEFORE you buy it! Get the model and serial number and search google or epinions.
Pros: Looks nice. That's about it. Cons: Power fuse burns out after 13mos. Takes too long for screen to come on.
I wish I had read this before buying the Philips 27PT6441, 27" flat screen.
It had always taken a good 15 secs for it to come on, but new to the flat screen market, we thought it was just something with that type of screen. Dah!
It is now 3 weeks out of the 1 year warranty and the power button went out. Philips will only pay for the parts ($2), not labor. I am an hour ONE WAY from any of their "authorized service centers". It's not worth the gas.
I am picking up a fuse from a local TV place to replace myself. Wish me luck! I live on a lake and if I keep having problems, this TV will be sleeping with the fishes in no time!
I wonder if RCA or Sony will send me a discount coupon if I tell them of my woes??!! :~o
TV won't turn on? $3 pack of fuses by buicknick72 ,Mar 09 '07
Pros: Good price/features/picture Cons: Fuse problems
These TV's do seem to have an issue with dieing. My first one died after 1 week. BJ's returned it hassle free for another one. Fast foward 2 years, almost exactly. It does not turn on.
I removed the back cover (you will need a torx screwdriver.) Make sure you get the screw near the A/V in/outs in the back. Follow the power cord to where it plugs into the main board. Right next to that will be a fuse, which will most likely appear to be blown out. Remove it and bring it to radioshak for a replacement. Fuses come in pack, so keep the extras around for the next two years. Or even tape them to the inside cover of the TV.
Obviusly unplug the TV before you do this, and still be careful, capacitors in TV's can still hold voltage.
Take heed! This TV is bad news. by ina1032 ,Dec 04 '06
Pros: LOOKS nice. Cons: Works anywhere from 4 months to 2 years. Dangerous to fix for novice.
If ONLY I had done research on this TV before I bought it. I consider myself one of the lucky "victims"...I got a whoppin' 2 years out of this TV. Some people only got 4 months before it went belly up. And they tried calling Philips and got NOWHERE!
I've had TV's that have lasted OVER 15 years, with NO problems whatsoever. 2 years, let alone 4 months, is ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY 100% UNACCEPTABLE!!
I hope Philips gets sued for consumer fraud!
Take my, and everyone else's advice........DO NOT BUY THIS TV......unless you want a huge paperweight.
Still don't believe me? Go to http://www.coxesroost.net/journal/2004/12/11/television-repair
Pros: None Cons: Kept it 3 days. Seemed like it was going to die any minute!
I bought this tv at Target for $299. I brought it home, and set it up that very night. I was a little worried about my purchase since I'm still in college, and $300 is a lot of moola... so I did my research the next day. I found numerous poor reviews on the internet. Within 3 days of having the tv my wife and I noticed the picture would flicker and the sound would fade in and out. Also the contrast would fade in and out. So we took it back the next weekend and got a full refund. Target gave us no issue about returning it, i just wish they hadn't been selling the unit in the first place.
Awful Experience - Avoid Philips by hoyas1999 ,Mar 07 '05
Pros: Worked for 5 months. Cons: Worked for ONLY 5 months!!!!!!
The only thing as incompetent as this product was the customer service I received. It completely died after 5 months and the "warranty" required that I pay roughly $200 for labor to fix the broken TV, even though it had only cost $300 when it was new. Plus, they won't even give you a guarantee after you have it fixed for the $200. Save a headache and a lot of time and just look elsewhere for your new TV.
