Doesn't work with Outlook
by sonyhater99 ,Sep 09 '03
Pros: Don't know -- it went right back in the box. Cons: DOESN'T SYNC WITH OUTLOOK!!!!
DO NOT buy this model if you need to sync it with Microsoft Outlook. It doesn't do it unless you spend an additional $70 on Intellisync software from Pumatech. Unfortunately, I didn't find that out until after I bought it and spent forever looking for instructions on Outlook sync. It would be nice if Sony at least mentioned it someplace. I'm done with them.

I'm going back to Palm
by potowngirl ,May 19 '04
Pros: Nice screen color Cons: Battery life is terrible and doesn't sync with Outlook
I had 2 Palm Pilots before I decided to try an upgraded color screen PDA. I was disappointed when I found it didn't sync with Outlook but found great software to do the job (Beyond Contacts). But- the battery life is terrible. I have it sitting in a cradle in my office all day and I take it out to bring home for the night and by the time I get back to work the battery is close to dead. I lose all the data and have to re-sync but the poor battery life makes it kind of useless. I'm not sure if I just have a lemon or if this is typical.

A Wholly Handy Handheld!
by mkuehn ,May 18 '04
Pros: Small, light, adequate for pretty heavy use. Cons: Some weird Japanese to English translations. Not upgradeable to Palm OS 5.
I bought this handheld to keep track of time at client sites, and to keep my contacts always at-hand. And it does both of these things easily.
Like any other Palm OS device, you can install a myriad of software titles on the SJ22. Each one I tried installed and operated without any problems.
Being a Mac user didn't seem to matter to the Clie...I'm using it as easily as any PC user would.
Overall, this is a great entry-level handheld. The color screen is high-res and looks great, while the processor is fast enough to keep from lagging while you're working entering data or running apps.
I would recommend it for anyone looking to keep their most important data portable.

Great PDA
by sheila93 ,Feb 04 '04
Pros: Low price, built-in screen flap Cons: None that I can think of!
This PDA CAN be synched with Outlook. If these people who are saying it won't would just take the time to read the manual or check the support pages at the Sony website, they wouldn't be putting up these bad reviews. I synch mine just fine with Outlook and Outlook Express and it replies fine to emails too.
The one little thing it could use is more speed when you add a memory stick to it. Memory stick access is a bit slow, but since I only keep games on that and apps on the PDA itself, it's not a big deal.
All in all, this PDA is great for anyone and very easy to use. There is tons of free software at the Palm OS website also.

My First PDA and once again Sony fails part of the test!
by bradweber ,Dec 22 '03
Pros: Great color screen, Easy to learn Cons: No Outlook sync software
Well I am writing this as a brand new PDA owner and let me tell you I am impressed with this model for many reasons and upset for sony for not including a sync software solution for outlook users.
First of all Im impressed with how fast I learned to use this device. It was quick to respond and had wonderful teaching tools on the screen. I think it has a good picture but I dont know how it would compare to say a $300 dollar model.
I did find a good software program to use called beyond contacts. It does sync with outlook and they have a free demo if you want to give it a try www.dataviz.com
I wish it came with a cradle but I will buy one of those on ebay.
If your a beginner this is a nice start, but if you have the money buy one of the better models with a camera or a phone etc.
If you are a power outlook user keep in mind sony wont give you sync software for this unit you will have to buy your own.

PDA works fine, but no Outlook Sync SW!
by mitchells ,Nov 18 '03
Pros: Good screen and Palm OS Cons: No Outlook Sync Software! Oh my! Talk about bait and switch selling....
This is just a quick review of the SJ22 (the replacement model for the SJ33) as a warning to those shopping for a Sony SJ22. This version does not include Outlook Sync Software!!!! Sony wants another $70 for this software!!
WHAT A RIPOFF!
You can get other sync software for less, but I thought this was pretty a pretty underhanded move by Sony and wanted to get the word out to shoppers ASAP!
Check out Desk To Go software at:
http://www.dataviz.com/products/desktoptogo/index.html
for a less expensive sync solution.
The screen on this PDA is very nice. It is bright and easy to read. Having a power button on the top was a good idea as my Palm 505 didn't have this and powered on when any of the keys were hit...so in my pocket remained on alot!
Palm OS is good and includes your usual stuff.

Ate ALL my data!
by knutson ,Jan 22 '04
Pros: Nice GUI, small, bright screen. Cons: Once the power goes away, so does your DATA!
I bought the SJ22 to replace a Palm product with an on switch that broke after 2.5 years of use. I was looking for a straightforward palm device with a decent GUI and the SJ22 delivered. Unfortunately, it has some serious shortcomings that have motivated me to discourage people from purchasing it. First, it's not Mac compatible. I knew this going into the deal and so thought I'd synch on a Windoze machine at work periodically. Second, if you do not religiously recharge the battery, it will eat ALL of your data, and you will have to reinitialize and feed everything back in. Needless to say, this causes much frustration and loss of time and energy! With the palm, if the battery runs out, it warns you that you need to replace them. You get no such warning with the SJ22...huge design oversight. I forgot to plug it in, but I also got the device to compensate for my forgetfulness. Not recommended.

Works fine in Mac and Entourage conduit on Mactopia
by teachdayz ,Jan 05 '04
Pros: Excellent entry Palm with MASSIVE on board memory (16 MB). Cons: Can't mount stick directly without third party software.
I am writing you this because I have researched this and other models only to be told that it is not compatible with Macintosh OS X. Well, the solution was "missing sync" from Mark/Space...oh so that is what they want you to believe...
I bought it thinking I would need to spend another 30 bucks on their sync software, but I tried the sync anyway right out of the box. I first downloaded Palm Desktop for Macintosh and proceeded to sync it. Oh my gosh it worked! True you do not have software to export to memory stick on mac desktop, but that is what multi-card readers are for (gonna need one anyway if you buy a Sony because Palm extra software is Secure Digital and not Memory Stick). Import from memory stick is good. Oh...and it syncs PERFECTLY with Entourage (even with exchange server!), the Mac Office X version of Outlook. Besides, at $77 after rebates from BestBuy (Jan 4, 2004), who could argue NOT to buy it!

It's A Sony Sham!
by t40585 ,Dec 18 '03
Pros: Don't know yet. Cons: The Intellisync scam.
I am very disappointed with this purchase. None of the documentation mentioned that I needed Intellisync Lite software to sync with Outlook. I already spent a good amount of money on the handheld itself and now they want me to go and spend more just so that the item is useful in the slightest? Ridiculous. Even more ridiculous, some "qualified" owners of this handheld receive free Intellisync Lite software, while others are left with an expensive paperweight for their desk until they can scrounge up the money for Intellisync. Sony should be ashamed!!!!
