Pros: Small, easy to use, good picture, cheap, available all over the place Cons: Cheap feel, no optical out
A Little Background I purchased this player along with a base model receiver, basic speakers, and fairly nice TV (that they actually paid for) as an early Christmas gift for the aunt and uncle. Last month during one of Texas' ...
Pros: Easy to connect/set up, inexpensive, works with most TV brands Cons: It's not really HD ready....and it has a few issues with playback.
When I purchased my S

LN-T2643H high definition TV in mid-January of 2008, I was faced with two non-critical and somewhat related questions about the analog TV I was replacing and whether or not I should get a ...
Pros: Easy to use, good picture and sound quality. Cons: "Touchy" remote.
The DVP-NS575P is Sonys entry-level DVD player. Im not really a big movie guy, or a home entertainment nut for that matter. In fact, our living room is highlighted by a 13-year old 20 inch wide TV with a trusty pair of bunny ears on ...
Pros: Light, Snazzy Styling, displays JPG & MP3, vastly superior to Sony's year ago model. Cons: None discovered yet. Connection costs are outrageous if your Nirvana includes Hi-Definition.
Sony DVP-NS575P CD/DVD Player Note: The "/S" at the end of the official Model Number of this product seems to indicate the color of the case. Ours is Silver, the only other choice is black. We would have preferred black but our new TV is ...
Pros: Plays older DVD's cheaper players might not be able to read; good picture and sound Cons: A-B Repeat and other control features are more complicated, not as convenient to use
Well, I have learned a good lesson this year. Stay away from those ultra-compact DVD players that run 30 to 40 dollars. Unless your DVD's are in pristine condition, those players won't play older or more heavily used discs at all. I have seen the ...
Pros: Picture quality, ergonomics, build quality, Sony special features. Cons: Small buttons on remote and unit. Embedded copy protection. Cheap but deeper discounts are rare.
For the executive summary, read only the bolded items. This is my third player since 2006. I own the Cyberhome CH-DVD 300S [reviewed on epinions] and Philips DVP642, all still work. However, they have quirks. Cyberhome won't play some of my ...
Pros: Compact, Great basic functioning, Easy-to-read display, Memory function. Cons: Some delay on layered/branching DVDs, Might not fit some colorschemes
There is a certain irony to my brother's recent upgrading of his whole entertainment system; he has ended up with a DVD player that I found I enjoy more than my own! He recently purchased a Sony DVP-NS57P DVD Player to go with his new Sanyo 19" HD TV ...
Pros: Many great features, plays VCD's too, remote works Sony TV's, handles marginal discs well Cons: Only has s-video and component outputs, some buttons on remote too sensitive, flimsy cabinet
First, I believe this model as of 2/2006 is discontinued, so you will probably only find it on eBay and the liquidators these days. I got mine on eBay from a dealer who specializes in RMA's (customer returns) and who supposedly tests them fully before ...
Pros: It is a slim, sleek, design. Cons: it does NOT work.
I purchased the Sony DVP-NS575P DVD player about 3 weeks ago, which was my 3rd and 4th DVD player purchase in less than ONE month. In my learning process I found that there are several different types of DVD media and I specifically needed one that would ...
Pros: Has all the features you could want. Very good audio and video. Cons: First unit had problems.
I was a big fan of Sony quality until about 10 years ago. Then they went cheap and started their nutty DRM rootkit thing on audio CD's. I got a 20 year anniversary present from my company. The only choices I liked were a set of kitchen knives that ...
The only redeeming quality of this player is its half-decent stereo imaging; this doesn't mean it SOUNDS good.
Picture quality through the upconversion is grainy and veiled. Color balance poor, green tint.
If you want a cheap machine because it's slim, it'll do. If you like good picture and sound, or even half-decent, then forget this machine and my guess any machine in this price range.
This DVD player is also a little on the noisy side when loading/searching. Not a big deal, but you can hear the mechanism and gears.
Remote control is very sensitive and on many occasions will do more than one operation.
Stopped working after about a year by deirdremenard ,Mar 31 '07
Pros: Looked and sounded fine until it died. Cons: It died.
Unless you're looking for your DVD player to spell out the word CANNOT for every disc you put in, this may not be the machine for you. The picture and sound had been quite good for the price, but my intention wasn't to buy a living room DVD player annually, given how hard it is to get to the back of my receiver in its cabinet. I am taking this opportunity to go HDmi but it will not be a Sony.
Pros: Great Picture and Sound, Precision Drive 3, JPEG Playback Cons: Hard to tell when it's on from display
I bought this player to go with my other Sony equipment, so I could use all the same remotes. It has great picture and sound quality, and I love the Picture Playback. It also has MP3 playback, but I have not used this yet. I also like how when some DVD's (Depends on the DVD) it will show the box art on the screen when stopped. It incorporates Precision Drive 3, which means it will play back less than perfect disks. (ie rentals)
It was a little hard to get it to put out the surround sound signal (possibly because I wasn't doing it myself) but it wasn't that hard. And sometimes it's hard to tell if it is on, but only for a second or two at a time.
skinny and quiet, unlike my Ex wife . . . just kidding by drpoff ,Dec 23 '04
Pros: Good looking, and very quiet! My old one made more noise than the movie. Cons: Very very slow to start up. Remote hard to operate by feel.
Very slim and nice looking unit. Your basic DVD player without 3:2 pulldown (or whatever they call it). I'm using it with an LCD and the picture quality is plenty good enough. I think it was built in the South because it is very slooooooowww to load. Other than that, it is well worth the money. Things will change to all HD soon anyway. Has an automatic memory of were you paused the movie to go take a leak . . cool.
Pros: None. Cons: Units only built to last warranty period, then expire. And Sony offers no help.
Worked fine until one month after the warranty expired. Then the unit would not recognize the remote any more - had to buy a new remote. Three weeks later got the "no disc" message, and the unit would not accept any more commands. Phoned Sony - first of all takes a horrible effort to get through to technical help, then they were completely non-sympathetic and unhelpful. Told me to take it in for service or buy a new one. And buy a new one I did - but not a Sony - never again. If you do a search on the web you will see that a very large class-action lawsuit has been launched against Sony in Quebec, Canada, regarding badly-built DVD units. SO STAY AWAY FROM SONY.
