My wife and I decided to build a home entertainment system in our basement. OK - it was really my idea - but once she saw the finished product she loved it!! Anyway, the centerpiece is, of course, the big-screen TV. The challenge is that our couch was...
Pros: Huge Screen, High Definition Feature plus tons of others... Cons: Extremely grainy when view with non-high definition channels.
Beautiful, stylish, "we're at the movies" feeling... What could be wrong with a TV like that? Not Much... Sitting to close or too far can decrease your viewing pleasure experience, also not having a High Definition cable box and or watching channels...
Pros: High Definition, Large Screen Cons: Possible sound issue with dialog in video games.
I've had my 43H70 for a little over three months now and am very happy with it. I am glad I went with the 4:3 aspect ratio as we watch more than 95% normal television (versus DVD's). I should say that this television will show the any imperfections in...
Pros: Economical compared to newer HDTV models, good picture, excellent audio. Cons: Picture quality poorer than HDTVs or non-projection models.
We recently purchased the Toshiba 43" 43H70 to replace an older NEC model that was destroyed in a flooded family room. The decision was between this model, which we considered the best buy of the non-HDTV modles and an HDTV. We chose this model because...
Pros: INCREDIBLE QUALITY, Makes you feel like you're there!!!!! Cons: Few channels have HDTV quality-
After doing quite a bit of research, I went for Toshiba on the basis of picture quality, reputation and the number of connections. After comparing this to other HDTVs, there is no comparison in picture quality. We are very pleased with it - superb...
Pros: It has great sound, graphics, menu, warranty, excellent closed captions, Cons: none really I recommend it to a
lot of people
I think that this is an excellent selection if you was to buy a television set. I have one of my own and the graphics are excellent. Hey they are selling like crazy because people see what I seen when I brought mine. The Toshiba 43H70 is easy to...
Disappointed w/Product & Service & Durability by dsmith5040 ,Apr 11 '07
Pros: Easy to set up. Adequate features for price compared to other TV's at the time. Cons: Poor sound. Does not last. Very poor customer service policy and service at Toshiba.
The sound does not go very loud. If you are watching a game w/room full of people or running on a treadmill, you can't hear it.
Plays DVDs and VHS with adequate quality.
The HD portion is no where near TV's today. I canceled our HD subscription b/c the TV hardly took advantage of it.
Fairly easy to use features.
We've had the set since 2001. This year the convergence went completely wacky. We even replaced IC chips which control the color guns and that did not fix it. We tried to contact customer service at Toshiba, but they flat REFUSED to let us talk to a any one in technical support. I simply wanted to ask questions to trouble-shoot my set. They said I had to take it to a non-warranty center and pay for my questions. I JUST HAD A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS! It's their policy that after one year, all customers are no longer customers and you now are at the mercy of TV repair shops. At least service matched the product.
Toshiba Projection TV's Durability is definitely a question by oldfatdude ,Jul 21 '06
Pros: Love the TV over all, but first experience with big screen TVs Cons: The screen does reflect a lot of light and the durability is not satisfactory.
I Bought my in July 2001.. It failed in July 2006. This is the first TV I've had in 40 years that hasn't lasted at least 10 years. We'll try a local repair shop to see how it goes, but the previous posts don't give me much hope.
This is our first experience with a big screen HD projection TV. The screen does reflect a lot of light. It's difficult to watch on a sunny day if there are lots of window in your house, as are in mine. At night turn off the lamp, the reflections are distracting.
Update- July 29th, 2006. Got the TV back from the local repair shop in just under a week. They did a fantastic job for under $400 bucks. Looks good as new! Hope it lasts another five years. I don't think I would trust the BestBuy kinda stores to rewind a vcr tape (not that I have any). The problem was the convergence controller chip/board/something, the thing that focuses the projectors. I think I got away from this cheap, my wife is happy and that's all that counts!
This set lasted from 2001 to 2006 by native020 ,Jul 08 '06
Pros: Good picture originally, easy setup Cons: Lousy reliability after 5 years
This set was bought in May 2001 and it lasted until June 2006. I had absolutely no problem with it until 2006. Then, the picture became scrambled. Naturally, the extended warranty expired in May 2005. What else is new?
The Best Buy repairman came out and diagnosed the problem and gave me an estimate of about $670. When the replacement board arrived, he installed it and it still didn't fix the picture. He performed a re-diagnosis and then came up with $1400 or more to replace several boards. At this point, it wasn't worth the expense to fix a TV this old. I paid $1999 originally back in 2001.
I'm in the process now of buying a replacement TV. What's the point of changing big-screen technology every year so there is no way of developing a history of reliability for the manufacturing? During the time this Toshiba was out, I was watching a 20 inch Sharp TV that was bought in 1992 and is still going strong. (Sharp model 19C-M100)
Pros: Average picture quality Cons: Apparently unrepairable
Poor retention of focus over time.
First unit delivered failed after three days and was replaced. Current unit now in the shop.
Currently in repair shop for past 93 days. Toshiba customer service has no idea when they will receive the part needed. Part ordered by service center two months ago after their repair lasted only two hours.
I have just bought another TV for another location. I crossed Toshiba off the list of possible alternatives.
Toshiba Projection TV's not worth the money by tfolsom ,Dec 19 '05
Pros: Good Picture, Easy to use, good sound Cons: Good for about 3 or 4 years, then you'll have to dispose of it.
I bought this model 43H70 almost 4 years ago and the picture went out last week. I spent $2000 on this TV.
It had a good picture and sound and was fairly easy to use, but the durability sucks. I've had a $150 pond shop bought TV that has lasted me 10 years and still is going strong but a $2000 dollar Toshiba TV that won't last 4 years.
I did some research on what the problem might be, and I found a ton of postings referencing all Toshiba projection TV models having similar or same problems. And advisors suggested that it's not worth fixing, instead invest in a new TV, the part alone would be $400 not including labor.
I'll never buy another Toshiba or rear projection TV.
