PDA - Great for Kids, Not so Great for Grown-ups

by bvckvs , Aug 25 '04
Pros: Built-in Camera, instant-on power
Cons: Slows down a connected PC to a crawl.
I made the plunge into shelling out a couple of hundred dollars for a feature-rich PDA and chose this ViewSonic device. Features I chose it over similar and similarly priced models primarily because it includes a little camera - built into ...

Sending 2nd V36 back

by littlome , Feb 26 '04
Pros: Great price, bright screen, lots of memory, camera, good battery life
Cons: Unstable (requires frequent resets), slow contact searches, battery alert problems
Purchased my first *real* PDA less than two weeks ago; being almost 43 years of age, I decided that I needed some "digital mental assist" to compensate for tiring biological gray matter :-) and decided on the Viewsonic V36 for its bang (fast 300Mhz ...

Beware the "non-current product"

by chauliodes , Dec 22 '04
Pros: Cheap - inexpensive Pocket PC
Cons: CHEAP - not a quality product and even less quality with "support"
A co-worker of mine and I each purchased the V36 about 10 months ago. I wanted a Pocket PC for the functionality of MS Outlook, Word, and Excel, but I didn't want to spend a bundle. I guess you get what you pay for. We have both had the same experience ...

Good Pocket PC 2003 PDA for the money

by rogerc77 , May 20 '04
Pros: - built-in camera (no flash) - removable battery
Cons: -accessory only from Viewsonic -tiny bit bigger than others
I currently own a Palm Vx which has been with me for years without problems. When my g/f wanted a PDA for birthday, I suggested giving her my Vx and then I get a switch to PPC to see what the rave is about them the last couple years. Of course she ...

Great PDA

by evoleddy , Jan 23 '04
Pros: Great power, connectivity. Good price.
Cons: Only one expansion slot.
This is pretty much everything I wanted in a PDA. Including price. The viewsonic, first of all as a brand are very reliable. Out of all the monitors I have had viewsonic have lasted the longest. Defiantly a brand that I trust. 300mhz processor with ...

Surpasses expectations
by shopinions ,Jul 04 '04
Pros: Camera, good memory, good price, PocketPC OS, Outlook 2002
Cons: No protective pocket screen cover, just pouch. Camera quality not great and pink.
I bought a V36 (few days ago) from Datavision.com because Veiwsonic offered a $100 coupon which I couldn't pass up. I needed a PDA with spreadsheet and camera. This thing comes with that and lots more. Since it uses Windows PocketPC OS you can load all kinds of programs to do almost anything you like. I wasn't crazy about having to sync with Outlook but it also came with Outlook 2002 which address some issues I didn't like. That camera shoots 640 or if you want to use the zoom you have to reduce image size to 320. Whites comeout pink!! It shoots choppy video but at least it does it. Need LOTS OF LIGHT for camera. Still haven't got it to play back on my computer yet. I used to use a Casio PVS400 so this is WAY beyond that! Doesn't seem to be able to sync to subdirectories in OUtlook.

Good but a little buggy.
by dozer54321 ,Aug 05 '04
Pros: Camera, Video, Sound, Plays MP3's and the like, can add software and more.
Cons: Little buggy and takes a while to get used to operation.
I have this PDA and I think it is great and for the most part dependable although I find myself either having to go through the settings menu and close the running programs (like windows task manager) or hitting the reset button on the back, but in reality I have not had many problems with this PDA. The fact that it doesn't have 802.11b on it is discouraging and for about 100 bucks you can get a sdio card for the wireless I have yet to do so since everything I need i can put on a sd card (512mb) and use on my V36. It can do just about anything with the right software, which is usually available either for free or pretty cheap. As of yet, mine can play movies and music, take notes, pictures, video, be used as a remote, and record sound for memo's well although I have not gone online with it.

Nice Price.....but
by sfcramer ,Feb 16 '04
Pros: nice design, great price
Cons: dependability

I brought this right before Christmas based on Internet reviews. I was very pleased with the V36 until after a few days when it started to shut itself off to where I had to do a soft reset. It doesn’t do it all the time and sometimes doesn’t happen for days. Its not a terrible thing, I don’t loose any data but it is somewhat inconvenient when you want to jot down a quick note . I called Viewsonic and they sent me a replacement. After a few days the replacement started doing the same thing. I email Veiwsonics tech support and they said that it is a problem that they are working on. Recently (I’ve only had this replacement for about a month) this new replacement has started a new thing where the screen starts getting fuzzy and then nonresponsive to where I have to do a soft reset. When my V36 works, it works great and the little camera is nifty but not something that I would take a family photo with.

Best Pocket PC on the market - very reasonably priced!
by sfieldi ,Dec 09 '03
Pros: Camera; MP3 playback availability; ease of use; Replaceable rechargeable battery; Excellent value for the money.
Cons: None
I had been in the market for a new PDA. I am a previous owner of several PALM OS PDA's. I was tired of the bland and limited functionality of the PALM OS and looked for something better. In my research I came across the Pocket PC OS and fell in love with its ease of use and functionality. I found the Viewsonic V36 at Compusa during a midnight sale. It retailed for $299.99 but with the rebate it knocked it down to $199.99. With a little bartering with the sales agent I got it down to what I thought was an excellent decision to buy. I love all of the features of the V36 from the built in digital camera to the sleek design. Granted the built in camera is no 5 megapixel monster, it takes relatively good "snapshots" while on the go. The Intel 300Mhz processor is much faster than any Palm PDA that I had previously owned. The picture resolution and clarity rivals that of the Sony Clie and others. The battery life is excellent. I am extremely pleased with this purchase.

Best Price on the Market-Good Features
by oasix ,Jan 12 '04
Pros: MP3, Camera, 64M memory
Cons: No built in WiFi card for wireless access
Just bought the V36, not a lot of accessories on the market yet ( new model from Viewsonic)still packs many features that are optional on others. I love the V36 with
its built-in pictures/video camera, also built-in MP3.
Very light weight and with the rebate($100 back, might be over)the $199 price makes this Pocket PC the best for the price. Comes loaded with Microsoft Pocket PC 2003 Professional, Word, Excel, Mediaplayer, etc. I looked at the Palm Tunsgten E but the V36 has more features built-in.
Also the Pocket PC software is a lot friendlier and easier to use. I recommend the V36 highly, it's the best for price
and features.
