Pros: The stadium's massive size; Scenery overlooking the river; Intense atmosphere Cons: Too crowded; Dirty, outdated restrooms; No beer sales
Neyland Stadium, home to the University of Tennessee Volunteers, is located in the city of Knoxville in the middle of the university campus. This stadium is the third largest college stadium in the nation and it is situated in a scenic area, right next ...
Pros: excitement, lots of people, great tradition Cons: rude and rowdy fans, parking
The University of Tennessee has the distinction of having the largest on-campus stadium in the country, with a capacity of over 107,000. I have visited Neyland Stadium twice to see Tennessee play Southern Miss, and both times was amazed by the Volunteer...
Pros: Loud Place Cons: Uncomfortable and not very attractive
I am a student at the University of Alabama and have traveled to Knoxville twice in the last four years to see the Tide take on the Vols. UT is in a great metro location and it's pretty easy to find something to do after the game. However, i was not...
Pros: complete bowl, a lot of covered seating Cons: uncomfortable steel bench seats, seating to closely compacted.
One thing visitors to Tennessee quickly learn is we are serious about our "football"! The first time my husband ever visited me, just happened to be the day before the Vols vs Gators game. I showed up to pick him up decked out in orange from head to...
Pros: VERY loud, lovely setting by river Cons: Not the largest in the country (for now), scalper prices
On football Saturdays, Neyland Stadium becomes the third largest "city" in Tennessee. It's packed to the brim with fans decked out in orange and white and yelling at the top of their lungs. Once you see the "Pride of the Southland" marching band form...
I moved to Tennessee about 18 months ago. I've been a fan of UT for a long time, though. My heart is still with LSU, but since they rarely play in football, I figured that it was safe to pull for both teams. Well, last Saturday I was invited to the...
Pros: fans, ample parking, easy access to and from the stadium Cons: none
Born and raised in Knoxville, my blood runs deep orange. I attended all home games as a student of UT, and still attend several home and away games each year.
It is truly an experience to walk into the stadium and see all the orange and...
Pros: Huge Stadium, Tons of Fans, Very Noisy Cons: Cramped Seats, Vols Fans, Too much Orange
To start with I must let you know that I am a Bama fan and am not too fond of the UT football team. However I feel that Neyland Stadium is a site worth seeing.
When you first see Neyland Stadium, you think - Oh my gosh that's a big stadium....
Pros: Everything what there not to love....... Cons: Nothing
In September I attended the Tenn.-Monroe La. game and I must admit it was like no other experience I have ever experienced in my life. From the time I pulled into the Knoxville city limits until the time I departed for home I felt like I was as close...
Pros: Crowd, color Orange, the Vols Cons: Football season ends to soon
Boys and Girls,
Its a good thing that Neyland Stadium is built along the Tennessee River, because the way they are expanding this thing, its a good thing they have a natural barrier.
Walking into Neyland is an experience in itself....
Pros: Team spirit, good access Cons: Older, small seats
Growing up in Knoxville TN. Neyland Stadium was the place to be during football season. We loved tailgating and going to the games. In fact, when TN scores they always shot fireworks and we could hear them from our house. Compared to many sporting ...
Pros: size, end zone, fans, Knoxville Cons: You don't want to leave your seat to go potty
Went to see the VOls play a few years back when I was a student myself. Although I had student seating, the view was great. Knoxville was packed and parking at a nearby meter or restaurant and walking seemed the best alternative. The stadium is close...
Awesome Experience But WAY Too Cramped!! by vikingman64 ,Jun 10 '04
Pros: Awesome setting - absolutely the best of any football venue. Cons: Please - these seat widths are criminal!
A big game in Neyland Stadium is the most awesome physical venue for a football game you can attend - and this includes everything from Michigan, LSU to Florida stadiums. The structure filled with 105,000 drunken country people clad in orange is unlike anything you will ever see.
Most fans are actually quite polite from my past experience. UT fans usually start loud and burn themselves out quickly.
My criticism, and it is a big one, is that the UT administration has gone crazy with greed by craming seats into the stadium. Each seat is literally only wide enough to give you a butt check and a half of room to sit down in, so be prepared to be uncomfortable by halftime.
#1 Atmosphere In The Country by ubervol ,Mar 31 '04
Pros: The Vol Navy, run through the T, the view, huge structure, crazy fans, 107,000+ Cons: Dirty inside at times, can be crowded.
How can you say its ugly, look at the picture right there! Neyland stadium is unlike any other in the nation. It rises straight up off the ground, unlike other large stadiums like Michigan. Watch countless boats float down the Tennessee river waving orange en route to the game. Vol Walk--Watch as many fans come to see the team walk down to the stadium as some other schools have come to the game. Just before the game, seeing the Pride of The Southland Band play Rocky Top and form a T on the field while players run through it is one of the best moments in college sports. Neyland has been given the best stadium award by MSNBC/The Sporting News. After one visit, you will know why.
A true college football Mecca by uswelding ,Dec 26 '03
Pros: High energy, wonderful setting, rabid fans Cons: Unless you know where to park, it can be a bit tricky
I have had the opportunity to see many of the great venues in college football. Clemson, Florida, Fla state, Ohio State, etc... While some of these stadiums can compare to Neyland, the home of the Vols is creme of the crop. The fans are amazing, the pre game festivities are awesome. The weather in east Tennessee in the fall is fabulous.
The stadium is right on the Tennessee River and hundreds of Volunteer fans arrive by boat and dock just outside the stadium. They are referred to as "The volunteer Navy, what a tradition! Neyland is one of the few big time stadiums that is actually on campus (I went to some Bama games in the mid 90's and what a bummer to have to drive an hour back to Tuscaloosa). I have heard some people complain about the seating (seats too small) and not serving beer but this is a COLLEGE football stadium, not the NFL!
If one wants the true big time college football experience, this is the Mecca.
