I flew with Air Jamaica(JM) to Montego bay airport (Sangster) last year and I wasn't very impressed with the aircraft itself or the way they took on so much luggage! To start off with, the check in staff seemed to allow all the passengers to check in ...
Pros: They'll get you there with your luggage. Cons: You will be late.
Air Jamaica is bankrupt again. It's always been that way as the company is generally poorly managed, but oh well, if you're going to Jamaica or beyond, they're not a bad choice. Air J (as they call it) is generally reasonably priced and they're ...

Pros: Great service, FOOD not pretzels, free headsets. Cons: Montego Bay airport, not always on schedule.
I read with interest the reviews for Air Jamaica. I could not believe some of the comments. One even said that they were shocked the pilot had a Jamaican accent! Why? Are Americans the only ones who know how to fly a plane? Ridiculous.

Pros: Generally less expensive, lots of places to fly into/outoff Cons: the 3-2-1 theory. The Mobay hub, not really Air J's fault though
For the most part I live in Jamaica; i.e I'm either there, in The Bahamas or in Jamaica's 15th parish, Florida. Most of my flights on Air Jamaica last under an hour & a half. The good news is that they pretty much cover Florida (like I said its not the...

Free Head phones Cons: unexplained delays, broken equipment, delays, rude ticket agents, delays, no room between seats.

I flew Air Jamaica (booked through an Air Jamaica package for air/hotel/transfers, etc.) from BWI on April 23 and returned on April 29, 2002. The flight down was a breeze, even though the cabin room is severely cramped. I was lucky that the person in...
Pros: None. Zip. Squat. Diddly. Cons: Ineptitude, and indifference to changing conditions and customer requests.
We booked a vacation to Curacao through Priceline, and chose to fly Air Jamaica. That, dear reader, was a huge mistake. Firstly, they unilaterally cancelled the return flight two months before the trip, but were able to land us seats on an American ...

Because of Air Jamaica I lost out on a day of my honeymoon, what is to be the best time of your life. Arriving at JFK only 45 minutes prior to our flight to St. Lucia, our seats had already been given up! It's not like we were 5 minutes late or anything....
Pros: Great Service with a Smile Cons: Not enough of the best entree

4-12-08 Ft. Lauderdale to Montego Bay Jamaica: Plane was over an hour late departing. Ten minutes into flight, we returned to airport - cabin would not pressurize. OK, stuff breaks, good call by Captain and a safe landing. AJ left us in limbo for over an ...
Pros: Free and tasty meal, free champagne in coach Cons: Unscheduled change in flight plan, late arrival/departures, poor service in cabin and ticket line
Despite reading a slew of negative online reviews, I decided to give Air Jamaica a try because the fare was reasonable and the schedule fit like a glove. While it wasn't the worst flight experience I've ever had, it left a poor first impression and ...
What a nightmare! We got to the airport at 2:00 P.M. on a Wednesday. They told us that our flight was delayed 4 hours. Did not give any reason other than the plane we were to fly on was not here. They gave us $500 jamaican dollars for food. Which did not cover our dinner. They kept changing the flight time and after over 10 hours they cancelled the flight. They sent us to a Holiday Inn. It was all-inclusive but definately was not a Sandals. The food was awful and the rooms very standard. We were told the next morning (Thursday) that we would leave the hotel at 2:30. We stood in LONG lines at the airport to get checked in again. Our flight was supposed to be leaving at 5:30 P.M. We did not leave until 7:00. We got to Ohare at 10:00. By the time I got to my home in Wisconsin it was 2:00 A.M. (Friday morning). I will never fly Air Jamaica again. This is regular occurrence with this airline.
Pros: Great service
You get what you pay for Cons: Dirty airplane
They do run out of food items, so good luck.
My husband and I flew first class from LAX to Montego Bay. The departing and return flights were both slightly delayed due to events beyond everyone's control. Had a wonderful experience, both flights were professionally maintained and we have no negative words to say. Food was excellent, drinks were aplenty and service was wonderful.
Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay is very small, and was incredibly crowded ... checking in for non first class flights looked to be 3 hours long ... we were escorted to an Air Jamaica first class line and were checked in under 10 minutes. We were also allowed to wait in the first class lounge (free drinks/snacks) until our plane boarded.
It costs more, but we certainly felt that we were taken care of in a manner that was well worth the extra money.
Air Jamaica is fine man!!! by unclebarry ,Dec 05 '03
Pros: Real food, complimentary champagne, friendly staff, on time 3 out of 4 legs. Cons: Slightly old seats, video system didn't work on one long leg.
Are you kidding me? We were a little skeptical after reading some of these reviews. We've flown too much and have hundreds of thousands of frequent flier miles and Air Jamaica is FINE. We flew them for the first time and 3 out of four connections were on time, the staff was as friendly as any and more so than some stuck up USA airlines. We had real food and complimentary champagne. We would certainly fly Air Jamaica again without hesitation. A fine experience. Do it.
Never again will I fly on an airline this bad. The flight out was okay, in a nice new looking aircraft, except the entertainment system that they advertise was not working. The food was of decent quality (it was pancakes for me, instead of fish, or whatever the other option was). The flight back was HORRIBLE. My chair back had a pole coming out of it into my back (and when we asked for a blanket to put behind it, it took almost 1.5 hours). There was no choice for food on the return flight, only a chicken salad. We ordered a kids meal and a fat free meal. We are still waiting for a kids meal (I plan on writing a letter to them making them send me the kids meal via fedex.) The only reason why they deserve a rating higher than 1 star is because they got me to my location. I will only fly this airline if forced to.
Pros: Free booze and free headsets for movies Cons: Delays, bad food, cramped planes, unknowledgeable management
Ok. Where do I begin. First leg of the flight...flight an hour late. Second leg of the flight....they change all our seating arrangements. A group of 12 people was scattered around the plane. I personally suffer from panic attacks during take-offs and landings and was furious not to have my companion next to me for support. Not to mention the place was creaking and cracking big time. I thought it was going to break apart.
Return trip home...first leg...plane late...yet again....and because we were in the back of the plane...there was absolutely no room left for our carry ons. Had stupid people putting soft duffle bags and purses up on top when they should be under the seat. Last leg home...still late.
Overall...the planes are small and cramped, the food was way more worse then usual, they don't seem to know how to run things. I won't be flying this airline again. The free booze isn't worth it.
Not unlike most other airlines by pelagic ,Mar 29 '04
Pros: New aircraft, decent food, convenient schedule, price, on-time or close to it. Cons: Packed flights. "Cattle call" boarding at MBJ. Slow check-in
I just returned from a roundtrip from Boston to Grenada involving plane changes in Montego Bay both ways. This was at the absolute height of spring break travel. Having read the reviews here I was prepared to face a nightmare. Instead, I found a pretty typical air travel experience and would not hesitate to use Air Jamaica again.
The flights operated on time or close to it. (our return to Boston was 45 minutes late... not bad for a long international flight in my book). The service was polite. Check-in was somewhat inefficient compared to, say, the Delta Shuttle, although it beats the pants off of other Caribbean carriers.
Only real complaints: A 30 minute stop in Bardados turned into a 60 minute stop with no explanation. At MBJ, they boarded a *completely full* A321 en masse, all rows all seats in a mad free-for-all, which probably delayed us 30 minutes for absoultely no reason other than disorganization by the ground staff.
Pros: Safety first regardless, food on even short-haul flights. Cons: a few staff who seem tired of the routine.
Flown Air J many, many times over the years to many of it's destinations. Last trip was last month Kingston/Fort Lauderdale - no problems of any kind. The airline is not perfect of course, there have been a few flight attendants whose attitude I did'nt care for but the vast majority are very good. This airline is subject to the same problems that at times afflict any airline - it has never been my personal experience that a lengthy delay went unexplained - when it does happen that is of course inexcusable. I pay attention to flying skills and the pilots are among the best - period. Bottom line - an airline does'nt win World Travel Awards six years running for no reason.
Pros: beautiful planes and wonderful meals.its just great. Cons: fly to more european and south american cities and fly to trinidad.bwia sucks man.
i travelled on air jamaica in december 0f 2003 and man was that airline wonderful.i have never experienced such an immaculate service by any other major airline.i now say thay all the other airlines in the world are mediocre compared air jamaica.the flight attendants were beautiful reflecting jamaica's cultral and racial diversity and the overall flight was smooth and hassle free.the aircrafts are state-of-the-art and are so beautiful, inside and out.i almost cried before leaving the plane, the food was so good,i am at a loss for words.the jamaicans are so well manered and curteous, not to mention so god dawm funny.this has made air jamaica and jamaica a permanent feature on my vacation itenary.people this airline is a 5 star ***** luxury giant.even the economy class is first class compared to other international airlines.keep up the great work air jamaica,u r the best airline i have ever flown on.
