All the way around the island of Kaua'i are beaches that look very beautiful with white sand, very blue water, and green mountains looming in the background. Depending on the force and direction of the wind, they are excellent for lying on the beach,...
Note: The original draft of this review was 2700 words. With some guidance I have decided to review many sites separately and will note that so you will not wonder why there is a lack of detail on particular places.
Pros: many restaurants, including one fine Thai one Cons: the worst Thai food I've ever had at the other one
On both of my visits to Kaua'i, I had dinner twice at Buzz's Steak and Lobster in the Coconut Marketplace (across the road from a string of hotels). It (and the branch in Waikiki in Honolulu) feature prime rib on Friday and Saturday night....
Most of the island of Kaua'i is wild -- literally wet and wild. Tourist programs claim that it has the world's highest swamp as well as the spot with the most rainfall on the planet. (I'm willing to credit the latter claim, but have seen swamps in the...
Pros: Warm, beautiful! No snow! Cons: Limited air conditioning, maybe in stores.
We were already in Kauai last year, as part of our tour on the Pride of Aloha ship by Norwegian Cruise Lines, NCL. Little did we know that less than a year later, my son and his family would move there. Grandma hadn't seen her grandkids for a couple ...
Pros: Exotic landscape of towering peaks, lush valleys and forbidding canyons. Cons: Home to the wettest spot on earth - don't go if rain depresses you!
You might have to travel as far as the Society Islands in French Polynesia to find anything even remotely close to the natural beauty of Kauai, the oldest and northernmost of the Hawaiian Islands. Kauai's natural beauty is simply stunning, a fantasy...
Pros: Absolutely breathtaking scenery. You'll never finish exploring it all. Cons: Expensive food, dangerous beaches, no real nightlife, can feel isolated after a while.
Well, I'm a married man now. And not too long ago, my wife and I returned from a very beautiful and relaxing honeymoon - well, strike that, we exhausted ourselves, but emotionally, it was just what we needed - on the island of Kauai. It was my ...
Pros: the peace and quiet; beautiful scenery Cons: sometimes it can feel *too* remote
On our island-hopping honeymoon, my husband and I chose Kauai for our first stop in Hawaii. We figured that after all the hustle and bustle leading up to and at our wedding, we'd want to relax in the most peaceful place possible. We were told that of...
Pros: Gorgeous views of Na Pali coast, wonderful snorkeling, not crowded Cons: No services, can be difficult to find.
I would have reviewed Kauai, but since so many already have, and done an admirable job at that, I decided to write a review on one of the main reasons I continually return to Kauai and the object of many a daydream - Tunnels Beach!
Pros: Romantic setting with beautiful ocean view rooms at extremely reasonable rates Cons: If you like resorts with alot of people and activities, a B&B isn't for you
I wanted to write this review to give everyone an alternate type of accommodation to stay in while on Kauai. There are over 100 reviews that can give you information on other places to stay, things to see and restaurants to eat at. There are some...
Pros: so many great beach choices Cons: so many great beach choices
Kauai is the Hawaiian island used by Hollywood the most to portray long, white, sandy beaches and lush tropical areas. The island is covered with valleys, gulches, rivers, mountains, gardens, waterfalls, parks, and even a canyon; but even with all that,...
Pros: Beautiful and relaxing with gorgeous views of the mountains and the ocean Cons: Humidity and costs
Kauai is part of a group of islands in the Pacific Ocean that is known as Hawaii, the 50th state in the United States. The northernmost of the islands, Kauai is also known as the garden island. It is not the biggest, nor is it the smallest of the...
Pros: Staying at a bungalow instead of a resort was perfect (for us) Cons: Staying at a bungalow instead of a resort might not be perfect (for you)
I spent two weeks in Hawaii in September, 2004 with the first week on Kauai for vacation. I found a great deal on a place and would like to focus much of this review more on how to make a decision as to where or how to stay on Kauai. Im ...
Pros: All the pros that come with a tropical island. Cons: All the cons that come with a tropical island.
I’ve had quite the eventful past week. I got back from Hawaii, sold my old boat, bought a new house, quit smoking and bought a new puppy. Short of finding out my wife is pregnant or I won the lottery, I can’t think of how this past week could have been...
Pros: Paradise, romantic, lots to see and do Cons: Can get a lot of rain, and pesty mosquitoes
Where did the fly girl disappear to for a whole month? Her home away from home, the garden island of Kauai. Ah, now I'm more than relaxed and ready to conquer any obstacles. You see, going to Kauai is very therapeutic for those who need to get away from...
Pros: CHEAP HOTEL, had everything I needed Cons: no resort-luxury - hehehehehe
Yes, it is possible to stay in Hawaii for little money, and it does not even have to be a hostel.
There is another epinion here "Kauai on a shoestring" which recommends a cabin in the Waimea Canyon. The problem with this is that the Canyon...
Pros: The most beautiful island of them all Cons: Evil blood suckin' mosquitoes!!
After watching the t.v. show "Survivor" last night, it made me think about my home away from home. The beautiful Garden Island of Kauai. Why is it called the Garden Island? Maybe, its because it is so lush and tropical, filled with hundreds of...
After spending four wonderfully sunny days in HILO, we arrived on KAUAI in the rain! The tables turned and we got our payback! A weather front from the BIG ISLAND had hit KAUAI and we spent four rainy days there! The weather on POIPU BEACH is...
Pros: Beaches, canyons, scenic mountains, dolphins, and snorkeling. Cons: Can be miserable on some parts of the island and at certain times of year.
When is the best time to travel to the island of Kauai? What should you do when you get there? Is Kauai all it's cracked up to be? Maybe I can shed some light on these questions based on my trip there.
Pros: Sunny mild weather, spectacular beaches, cliffs, canyons, and mountains; macadamia nut ice-cream following fresh fish Cons: Prices (no surprise), travel time from mainland, little nightlife or man-made attractions
During nine memorable days in January 2004, my wife and I celebrated our delayed honeymoon/fifth anniversary in splendid style on the magnificent island of Kauai. Kauai is still largely unspoiled. Tourists seeking more than natural beauty go ...
Pros: Dramatic scenery (North Shore), less crowds, less commercialized, great beaches, great hiking and camping. Cons: Virtually no night life; less supply of hotel rooms; not as many direct flights
If you imagine Hawaii to be a beautiful lush paradise, I would rank the Hawaiian islands in this order (best to worst): Kauai, Maui, Big Island of Hawaii, and Oahu (sorry, I did not visit any of the smaller islands). If you imagine Hawaii to have ...
My wife and I decided to spend our honeymoon in Hawaii since we were looking for a romantic, tropical getaway. I hadn't been to the Islands since I was a small boy, and she had never been. While searching for the island we would visit, we agreed on...
Pros: Kauai still retains many of its natural splendor Cons: Over developed, expensive, a tropical version of Las Vegas where not much is authentic
Kauai is an island on the move. It is alive; it continues to grow, suffer, then thrive again. It certainly is the "Garden Island," the most verdant, lush Hawaiian island that television and movies often portray when a tropical jungle background is ...
Pros: TONS OF RESTAURANTS Cons: CAN BE VERY EXPENSIVE
My favorite thing to do on my favorite island is enjoying good food at a good restaurant with good wine and great ambiance. So here goes..my review of a week's worth of eating in Kauai!
First night...THE BEACH HOUSE is located at 5022 Lawai...
Pros: Quite, Able to find excellent deals, Gorgeous scenic drives, great snorkeling Cons: Too wet to make good use of the convertible.
I spent 10 days on Kauai in January '03, and it was the closest to paradise that I've ever been. Perhaps it was the time of year, but the local/tourist ratio seemed very comfortable. Kauai is the only island I visited (other than the lay-over in...
Pros: Beautiful, tranquil island. Spectacular scenery. Reasonable prices for Hawaii. Cons: It might be too quiet for some.
Breathtaking beauty abounds on this magnificent island. My husband and I first visited Kauai five years ago and we returned this past February. In fact, we spent Valentine's Day soaring over the mountains and valleys of Kauai in an open...
Pros: Kauai is a lush, beautiful island with incredible scenery in all directions. Cons: It is small enough that you could get "island fever" but I never have!
Kauai has the most beautiful landscape of any place I have ever visited. A small island with craggy mountains surrounded by the blue Pacific Ocean, it is a feast for all the senses.
The lush, green foliage and myriad of blooming flowers...
We stayed 4 days on the island after 2 days on Oahu and 1 day on the Big Island.
One caveat. Don't reserve activities at the the hotel concierge. Most of them are outside vendors and charge a surcharge, you are better off using coupons and...
Pros: Warm weather/water, Solitude Cons: Fairly expensive (Main con is I'm not there)
In March or 2000 my wife and I spent 5 days on the wonderful island of Kauai as part of a 19 day dream vacation that included time on Oahu, Kauai, Tahiti, Bora Bora and a day trip to Moorea. Essentially what we did was spend 10 days in the Hawaiian...
Pros: Inexpensive and fun activity to do while visiting Kauai Cons: Water temps are in the low 70's
If you ask people who have been to Kauai what they did, most will tell you they went snorkeling. As with all of Hawaii, snorkeling is big business. You'll find stopping to snorkel on the way to other points of interest easy to do. Unfortunately,...
I feel the need to write a seperate article on the resort because you can spend an entire vacation in the resort alone. My previous opinion was on the island in general. This one is more about the specifics of the resort.
Pros: the scenery, the dolphins, the snorkel tour at the end Cons: lack of control, can't stop if you see something you like cuz it's a tour
On your trip to Kauai, make sure you schedule a trip to the Na Pali (the cliff) Coast. This coast is practically inaccessible by land which makes the scenery virginal and unspoiled. I would suggest a boat or a kayak trip of a day or half a day. Check...
Pros: Beautiful and diverse island landscape. Wonderful, friendly locals; unspoiled. Cons: Road construction down sometimes crowded highway.
The Kauai Coast Resort is exceptionally reasonably priced and has been a well kept secret (until now). It used to operate as a hotel but was bought out a year or two ago by Shell Vacation Properties and completely revamped. The resort now operates as a...
Pros: "Beautiful" is an understatement. Cons: No nightlife to speak of.
The first time you set foot on Kauai, you will wonder what took you so long. And you will want to return again and again. It is one of the most romantic and beautiful places on Earth. Perfect for a honeymoon or anniversary.
My wife and I travelled to Kauai in April of 1999. We flew in at dusk, so we saw the breaking surf from the air and then darkness settled in. We took a taxi across the island to the Princeville resort, which was breathtaking even at night. The lobby...
Pros: We're going! Cons: Sounds like there are none!
We're going to Kauai in just a few weeks. I diligently sat here for 4 hours and reviewed all the reviews and made this compendium. It's info from the other reviews that I wanted to be sure to have. Thanks to all the great reviews. When we get back,...
Pros: Beautiful, great weather, not overcrowded, friendly islanders, nice beaches
Cons: Limited nightlife, chickens running everywhere, traveling by car can be slow
My husband and I chose Kauai as the island we wanted to visit when we were celebrating our 13th anniversary. I had read from Frommer's Guide and Lonely Planet that this was the least spoiled of the islands, more traditional, and had a multitude of...
Pros: Gold Crown Resorts; Airport Check-in Cons: Pahio resorts lack air conditioning and ocean views.
Pahio Resorts have four beautiful "Gold Crown" timeshare developments on the island of Kauai; three are located in Princeville and one near Lihue. Our family reserved three two bedroom units at the newest property in Princeville back in early...
Pros: Lots to see and do Cons: North end of the island is un-swimmable
Our first trip to Kauai took place on December 14-28, 2000, so I'm no expert on Kauai. However, some of my observations could come in handy for those of you visiting the island for the first time in winter. I strongly recommend you research any...
My wife and I spent 2 weeks in Hawaii for our honeymoon in October 1998. The first week in Maui, the second in Kauai. While Maui holds a lot of interest, when we go back to Hawaii, it will be to Kauai. Why?
Pros: beautiful lush greenery, lots of nature, beautiful beaches, friendliest people, stunning scenery Cons: high gas and grocery prices, island is very small
My trip to Kaua'i was one of the best adventures I’ve ever had. Here are ten reasons why. Have a great time!

Pros: Beautiful, great things to do, very relaxing Cons: EXPENSIVE!
Review Topic: Overview
Kauai is my favorite of all the Hawaiian islands. It isn't full of annoying tourists, and the population is only about 5000. Usually you can take your time, and there aren't too many people around. ...
Pros: Food is the best! Cons: Entertainment is a little cheesy at times
Oh we're gooooeeeeeeeeeeeng to a Hukilau...a huki huki huki... Know this song? If you have been to a luau you do! On our trip to the gorgeous, but rainy, island of Kauai, we had to do a Kauaian luau. Having been to luaus on Oahu twice,...
Pros: Kauai is a beautiful place sadly being absorbed by "progress." See it now.
Cons: Kauai is a beautiful place if you avoid the tourist side of town. Immerse yourself.
My wife and I recently spent two lazy weeks on Kauai mainly in Ka'paa. We rented a fully-stocked but tiny private cottage ($800/week) at Baby Beach behind the Chevron station in town. Baby Beach is where the locals go to fish, drink beer and watch their ...
Pros: Low priced, no frills, clean, centrally located hotel on the beach; "Meal Deal "is a good value. Cons: Beach is pretty to look at, but not good for swimming
The Kauai Coconut Beach Resort is located near Kapaa, on the Coconut Coast (west side) of Kauai. This budget resort is located on ocean front property, near shops and restaurants. I normally don't write about places I have never stayed, but my sister...
Pros: Beautiful scenery, quiet, less commercialized, not crowded Cons: No nightlife, no direct flights from the US
I went to Kauai with my girlfriend in October of 1998 for a week and had a spectacular vacation that I highly recommend to other couples. Kauai has incredible beaches and landscapes, but is not as commercialized and over-touristed as more popular Oahu...
Pros: convenient to all necessities Cons: beaches aren't as nice
Poipu and Kapaa are the main towns on the island. I spent most of my time on the North Shore of Haena and about 10 days in Kapaa in a private house on the beach.
The scenery of the North was much more beautiful with spontaneous waterfalls,...
Pros: Beautiful Beaches, deep blue water and lot's of sun. Cons: Having to go home.
Kauai is the place to go to get away from it all. They actually have a law that states it's illegal to bring your worries with you to the island. That just says it all. These people are laid back and very friendly. It's so much different than Oahu....
Pros: great beaches, beautiful botanical gardens, and much more. Cons: can be costly, lot's of rain
Of all the vacations that I have ever been on, my favorite would have to be the two times that I went to Kauai. Kauai has many different beautiful sites to see. You could spend years looking at all the marvelous sites in Kauai. Some of the many...
This trip was worth the 30 hours of travel time on a plane to get there from Maryland. Kauai wasn't what I had expected. There isn't a flat piece of land on the entire island. It is all canyons, mountains, and hills. There are many beautiful beaches...
When visiting Kauai, I decided to rent a private house instead of staying at a hotel or resort since we had planned a 6 week vacation. We made a booking through Sue & Greg Strickland (husband/wife team) or Garden Island Properties:
Pros: Close to some of the best hiking in Hawaii Cons: If it rains, you're doomed...torrents of water & later, mud
Having grown up in Hawaii, there are few places that really draw me back to childhood; back when Hawaii was just becoming a state, we went to school barefoot and really did eat sugar cane. Okay, that's pretty much gone, but on Kauai, you can catch a...
Pros: Relaxing, absolutely beautiful, not crowded Cons: Nothing
My wife and I were recently on the island of Kauai. We spent a total of 3 nights there. Previous to going to Kauai we were in Oahu, very crowded and hectic. Upon exiting Lihue Airport, in Kauai, we were in for a complete 180. Kauai is much more...
Pros: Amazing all around, Like nowhere else on earth, Wonderful beaches, hikes, etc. Cons: Verrry expensive!!!

Pros: beautiful, surfing, scuba diving Cons: not a one
There's only one word to describe this majestic island: Wow. We were lucky enough to book a few nights on this island during a trip three year ago for Christmas. Honestly I cannot say one bad thing about this great island.
Pros: great scenery and adventure possibilities Cons: gets more rainfall than other parts of Kauai
Of all the places on Kauai, we love the north shore best! The north shore is more beautiful and less crowded than Poipu in the south. From majestic mountains to white sandy beaches-north shore scenery is truly awesome.
Pros: Unspoiled natural beauty away from it all Cons: no night life, but wasn't looking for it
Just came back from a week long vacation in Kauai. Other than the long flight from New York, the trip was great.
Before the trip I did some reading up on the Island, as well as reading through the epinions, and I thought I might expect a little bit...
Pros: Everything! Read the review! Cons: Things are pricey, especially food, but who cares?
Kaua'i is the quite simply the most lush, tropical, and all-around beautiful islands of the chain. The big island is big, Oahu is too populated, and Maui is too commercial. Kauai, however, is what Hawaii used to be. It is quiet, inspirational, and...
Pros: Incredibly Friendly Locals and Vistas that you will never forget.... Cons: Expensive....Anything not made or grown in Hawaii is double the price of the mainland.
Two weeks on Kauai and in the first two hours I was there I started trying to figure out a way to stay! The drive from Lihue Airport to Princeville was about 45 minutes and what a beautiful ride it was. Nose pressed against the window like a puppies...
I recently spent four days on Kauai's north shore and loved every minute of it. One of the best things we did on our trip was take a helicopter tour of the island. It is pricey, about $150...
Pros: Beautiful scenery, quaint & cozy feeling of island life is everywhere Cons: A little expensive
Don't go to Kaui if you're dying for some nightlife, it's not your kind of island. However, if you prefer to be alone/with your love or with an intimate group of friends, listening to Jimmy Buffet or Bob Marley, sipping blue hawiians, then go on over....
Pros: The most beautiful place in the world Cons: Heart in your throat
In 1998 I had the experience of a lifetime when I hiked the 11-mile Kalalau trail (18 kilometers). I had the great fortune to hike the trail with a kama'aina (resident of Hawaii) who had been hiking the trail every year for over 10 years.
My first visit to Kauai, Hawaii was in Nov/Dec and it was a beautiful time to go to a beautiful place! We ventured there as part of an American-Hawaii cruise, so we didn't stay at hotels, but rather docked and stayed on the ship.
Pros: great setting; snorkeling; relaxed atmosphere Cons: limited nightlife
I have visited Hanalei Colony Resort (HCR) on several occasions because my parents own a condo there. For those who wish to experience Hawaii the way it was decades ago, this is the place to stay on the island.
Pros: average weather is 75 degrees and sunny all year long and so much more Cons: none, none, none
The amount of movies made on Kauai is amazing - not to mention TV shows and commercials! Kauai has the perfect combination of green plains, large valleys, long, perfect beaches, incredible coastlines, and local towns and villages to have something for...
Pros: Variety of accommodations Cons: Lots of packing and unpacking!
Just got back from my first trip to Kauai on 6/2/2000. Since this was partially a working trip, we had to move around to be near work sites. Consequently, we had 3 different accommodations for a six-day trip! But since this was also a "fun"...
Being Hawaiian, I, of course, love everything about the culture and all of the islands but Kauai is the most romantic in my opinion. If you're not in love when you get there, you will be by the time you leave. It is the island of romance, very quaint...
Pros: Inexpensive, only takes 90 min. Will probably be beautiful in the future Cons: not beautiful now, thanks to hurricane. CROWDED!
The site:
The Fern Grotto is a cave whose entry is purportedly totally draped with ferns, some of which are supposed to be about 40 feet long. You may either kayak or take the flat-bottomed boat up the Wailua River (on the east side of the island)...
Pros: beauty, geography, relaxing Cons: limited restaurant selection, things to do at night
I've visited Kauai several times, with trips ranging from just over a week to a month long. And from all I've seen and heard of Hawaii, Kauai is the most beautiful of all the islands. Countless friends and past visitors have fallen in love with it. ...
Pros: Varied landscapes, mostly undeveloped, friendly Cons: None that we found
If night life, shopping malls, and laying around the pool while sipping fruity drinks are your idea of a great Hawaiian vacation, head to any island at all; but if you want a REALLY active outdoor experience, you'd have a tough time beating Kauai. ...
Hyatt Points were used to book two adjoining double rooms at the Hyatt Regency Kaua'i Resort & Spa last March. The trip, my twelfth to the Hawaiian islands, was one of the best tropical vacations I've ever had.
Pros: beautiful, excellent snorkeling, reasonably priced accommodations, fabulous sunsets, romantic, rainbows Cons: expensive food, expensive restaurants, little night life
This island is one of our top vacation choices. We stay on the Poipu side of the island, where the climate is warm and more desert-like than the north end. We usually rent a condominium from R&R Rentals. They specialize in reasonably priced...
Pros: Magnificent views, still unspoiled areas Cons: Eventual oahu-ization
If I could choose a place to spend my final days, it would be Hanalei, the end of the world at the north end of Kauai. The beaches were wonderful, the life laid back, and the crowds seemed to be elsewhere. It's Bali Hai and beyond.
Pros: Wonderful food! Cons: Wonderful food leads to nasty pounds!
Now I have to first tell you that it doesn't take much to impress me on Kauai. Sure, I like fancy restaurants as much as the next gal but these are the restaurants that have special memories for me. So any locals reading this saying "Are you...
Pros: Do the boat rides in the summer months. Cons: If your prone to sea sickness take something for it.

Pros: Kitchen, washer-dryer, lots more room Cons: Not all things on-site, restaurants, shops etc.
My wife and I are fairly seasoned travelers. We have been to Hawaii in general 6 times, and to Kauai 3 times. Having both stayed in a hotel and condo, plus stayed on a cruise ship once, I feel that the condo route is the way to go.
Pros: The island is small so it's not crowded. Cons: There aren't as many safe beaches as the other islands
I stayed at the Outrigger Resort on the island of Kauai. It wasn't on a very nice beach because it was scattered with sharp rocks and had huge waves. I didn't spend much time on the beach because their pools were so nice. There were three huge pools in a...

Pros: weather, plenty to do, very relaxing Cons: Nightlife is almost nonexistent
Kauai, The Garden Island, is our favorite place in the world to travel to. We have vacationed there five times and try to do so every year. There are no "Hard Rock Cafes", high rises... just a little two lane road that will take you 3/4 of the...
Pros: not a lot of tourists Cons: not much night life as far as clubs

Pros: Gorgeous, lush, unspoiled beauty. Friendly and charming. Cons: Don't want to see it change!

Pros: Beautiful, Relaxing, Slower Paced, Nice Beaches, Awesome Shave Ice Cons: Some beaches too dangerous to swim

Pros: Beautiful lay-out, well-designed, friendly service Cons: A bit pricey
My favourite hotel on Kauai without any doubt is the Hyatt Regency on Shipwreck Beach near Poipu. As one of the more upmarket resorts on the island, the Hyatt hotel is designed like a plantation or resort built in the thirties or forties. Not higher...
Pros: Best place on the island! Cons: Geckos are all over the hallways! But it IS kind of cool though ;)
I traveled to the Island of Kauai last spring and had a blast! The entire trip was fun, encluding all of the time at the hotel, which most find boring. I stayed at the Kauai Beach/Outrigger Hotel on the western side of Kauai.

WOW...what can you say about such a heavenly place...Kauai is absolutely beautiful and a true paradise if you're looking to slip away from the rat race for a while. It does rain a lot in Kauai but that is why it is SO green and pretty. Just be prepared...
Pros: It's "Fantasy Island" just ask Ricardo Cons: The flight and hotel costs make break your bank
Where do I begin to tell you about all the good things to be found in Kauai. I toured the "Garden Isle" in 1996 on our Honeymoon. It was not that long after the island had been devastated by Hurricane Iniki. The eye of the monster hurricane...
Pros: Perfect weather with trade winds to keep you cool. A VERY relaxing environment, perfect place for the shutterbug, fantastic snorkeling and kayaking. You can always find a place to be alone. Cons: It's a long plane ride
Review Topic: Overview
We traveled to Kauai in early June 2000. We are in our early 50's and are quite active. We had never had a honeymoon and decided this would be a good place to rekindle the romance in our love.
During a recent visit to Kauai, I had the misfortune of staying in the downstairs of a private house in Kapaa. In this review, I cannot comment about the quality of service rendered by the owners, Garden Island Properties, as I was booked there due to an...
Pros: A beautiful island all around, and tons to do for fun Cons: The cost, and the jet lag
My husband and I went to Kauai for our honeymoon 4 1/2 years ago. He owned a timeshare at the Pono Kai resort, and had never been to it. I'm glad he waited!
Kauai is a beautiful resort island. When I talk to people about visiting Hawaii,...
Pros: Quiet, Rainforests, Na Pali coast!!!!, Great Snorkeling Cons: some may prefer more built up islands.,
Kauai is a must see on any visit to Hawaii. I think Kauai gives a better feel for what the true Hawaii is. It is not built up like Oahu, or like Maui is becoming. There is one main road around 3/4 of the island, the other 1/4 is the Na Pali coast...
Pros: Very Relaxing,Clear your head Cons: Not luxurious,Not Cheap
The more subdued West end of the island- Waimea Plantation Cottages are minutes from the gorgeous Waimea Canyon- which is a must see if you go to Kauai. If you don't mind simple accommodations, enjoy privacy, and really feel like just "kicking...
Pros: beautiful Cons: more rainy than some of the islands
Kauai has all the beauty and nature that you expect when you go to Hawaii, but without all the tourism and the crowds that abound at some of the other islands. I spent four days there last spring break with my boyfriend and had a fabulous time. The...
Pros: Learning to surf!! I did it!! And Cliff is a hottie! Cons: I scraped my elbow on the board. But now it's better!
Without a doubt the highlight of my trip to Kauai was taking a surf lesson. Tons of places advertise in the tourist brochures, but the ad for one called "Learn to Surf" caught my eye because it said "Guaranteed to stand up and catch waves...
Pros: Fun, snorkeling, beach, town Cons: A little slow
I have been to Hanalei in Kauai for a week or so for the last five years. I have stayed at a condo on the beach which is in large part the reason for my enjoyment of Hanalei. We stay at a great place in the middle of the Bay, within a few steps of the...
Kauai is a very beautiful island. Now I now why they call it the "Garden Island". It is a very beautiful and breath taking site. I really enjoyed this island and there is a lot to do there site seeing wise. It is a little bit more costly than...
Pros: Paradise, friendly, not too crowded Cons: Having to leave
If you go anywhere in Kauii go to Haneleii bay on the northern coast. In fact I think that very picture is from Hanelei bay. Hanelei is right next to these famous golf courses on the north coast. I'm not a golfer so you might want to look into this...
Pros: great beaches and restaurants Cons: can't think of any
We had the best family vacation on Kauai! A major reason was the Kauai Underground Guide--a terrific guidebook--which told us what we need to know to find the best beaches and restaurants and things to do. What a help!
Pros: Quiet, peaceful, clean, undeveloped Cons: Undeveloped, not a lot of nightlife, remote
I've been to Kauai numerous time, most recently last February and Northern Kauai, near Hanalei and Princeville is definitely the best. It can be much wetter than the Southern side -- Poipu -- but it is far greener and more interesting in terms of terrain...
Pros: Great beach, great gardens Cons: Choppy waves for snorkeling
I stayed at the Kiahuna Poipu resort before Hurricane Iniki and loved it. But it was severely damaged during the hurricane and has since had to be restored. I went back as a visitor and remembered why I had gone back several times.
The Kiahuna on...
Pros: Weather & scenery Cons: Distance to get there
Kauai is a fabulous place. My wife and I visited the island of Kauai for the second time in November, 1998. From the lush vegetation and beautiful countryside to the people, Kauai is incomparable in its splendor. I highly rate it as a top-rate travel...
Pros: beautiful scenery Cons: the return climb can be steep!
There is lots of hiking in Kauai, but none compares to hiking in the Waimea Canyon. The Waimea Canyon is considered to be the Grand Canyon of the Pacific and it is truly spectacular. The vistas are incredible from the top and as you hike down into the...
Pros: Slow pace, relaxing, beautiful weather, great places to go. Cons: It's Hawaii, there are no cons.
As anyone who planned their own wedding could tell you, the stress level my wife and I felt were off of any charts anyone has ever produced. Between our jobs, making sure everything was in place for the wedding and then her mom's side of the family's...
Pros: Green, lush, beautiful, peaceful. Exactly what you expect Hawaii to be Cons: At times the roads on the north side close due to flooding.
We stayed at the North end of Kauai, beautiful area! The cottages we stayed at were right on the beach so we could walk out our door and start snorkeling. It's a small island so everything you want is very close. We spent most of our time in the ...
Pros: Peace and Quiet for people looking for a real vacation Cons: not much road to work with, no nightlife
We recently visited kauai on a long overdue vacation. We stayed at the Sheraton in Poipu beach. Excellent beach, but the garden view at the Sheraton was pretty meadiocore since it was rated one of the nicest hotels in Kauai.
Pros: Weather, beaches, views Cons: Can be expensive.
Went back for our 2nd trip to Kauai in Feb.'05. 1st trip was 5 years ago with my wife and we fell in love with the place. This trip was me, my wife, our 6 year old son, 3 other couples, and 4 other kids ages 5 thru 11. On both trips we stayed at Hyatt ...
Pros: A great time and cheap ! Cons: can become crowded later on in the day
If you get the fever to snorkel while on Kauai, then you must hit Poipou beach. There is a lot of activity on those reefs. Before you hit the water you can get gear from a little house looking surf shop. They also sell fish food for about two or three...
Pros: beautiful, lots to do and see, not commercialized Cons: NONE
My husband and I spent the second week of our honeymoon on Kauai. We wanted to be able to see the beauty of Hawaii, do some activities that we couldn't do in Pennsylvania, and yet not be in a real commercialized environment. We were very pleased with our...
Pros: Sheer Beauty, peacefulness, not too many tourists Cons: Expensive to eat.
Recently my wife and I spent a week in the Makai Club Cottages in Princeville, Kauai. The most beautiful island in the chain, the "Garden Isle" as it is called, is even less built up than Maui and is host to the Sleeping Giant, a formation of a...
Pros: get to see a lot of the island for less than expensive hotels Cons: takes a bit more research, but worth the effort
We spent 10 days in Kauai and stayed at different bed and breakfasts around the island. This gave us the chance to visit many different parts of the island, rather than being stationary on just one side. Our favorite bed and breakfast was the Hale o'...
Pros: Nice views and beach Cons: Long, exhausting, not worth the work
I have now done the Kalalau Trail up the Na Pali Coast three times. I am not quite sure why I keep doing it. It's long, tiring, painful, and not worth the work.
Before getting too far, I should point out that I am not a big fan of hiking. I have...
My husband and I were in Kauai from Nov. 5 - Nov. 9. It is a very beautiful island. If you like to be outdoors and see nature, this island is for you. I would suggest at least a 1 week stay to get some hiking, snorkeling, horseback riding, and...
My new fabulous husband and I just got back from our honeymoon on this beautiful island. We rented a convertible, something I had to talk him into, but it ended up being the best part of...
If you had to choose one island to go to out of all of Hawaii you need to pick Kauai. Kauai has everything and more to offer for a honeymoon, fmaily vacation, or just when you wanna take some time off from work. I would say that when i went to Hawaii I...
Blue Dolphin Charters, Kauai by sboifort ,Apr 08 '04
Pros: No Pros - this really sucked Cons: Tourist rip-off
We booked a cruise with Blue Dolphin Charters hoping to see the Napali Coast, but when we made the booking, Blue Dolphin failed to explain to us that because of the bad weather the boat was not going to the Napali Coast. Instead we ended up wasting 4 hours trying to see some whales (costs $20 in Monterey, CA, vs. $80 for this Blue Dolphin cruise...) and when we asked for a refund, the manager laughed in our face and told us that we should have come in August!!! Lots of other people on the boat were as pist off as we were. Summary: bad customer service, false advertising and a major rip-off for tourists. The only excuse they have I guess: this company is here to make some money, regardless of whether they provide the service that they advertise. My tip: do not book your cruise with them, they really suck.
Pros: Beautiful scenery, slower pace, great snorkeling and water sports Cons: Expensive food and accommodation, be prepared for rain in some areas!
We recently made our first trip to this beautiful island and were impressed with it`s variety of spectacular sights and sounds. We have snorkeled in many locations but this was one of the best! Quiet beaches were abundant but you need a car to find them! We recommend carrentalsinhawaii.com for the best deal. We rented a new Neon for 14 days for $366.00! Our accommodation with Classic Vacation Cottages in Kalaheo, though well priced was unfortunately not clean, poorly maintained, and very noisy. Try to get a very recent review of accommodations before you rent! We managed by cleaning for ourselves but wished we had brought our own sheets etc. The rest of the experience was great, but agree with other reviewers that food is expensive! We found some of the larger chain markets had sales and also the farmer`s markets had cheaper and fresher fruits and vegetables.
Pros: Good location on the North Shore of Kauai. Cons: BEDBUGS!
We stayed at Bali Hai Villas in August 2007. The room appeared clean, but we were dismayed to discover bedbugs! The furniture and mattress appeared old (think Golden Girls of Miami), and the bed linens and comforter were scratchy and stiff. I was ready to leave after our four day trip, and I definitely don't recommend this resort since management was not particularly concerned about the bedbugs when told. Needless to say, I don't plan on purchasing a timeshare with RCI anytime soon.
Pros: Slow island life, beautiful vegetation, warm, clear water for swim/snorkel Cons: disappointing food options, no other fellow foodies to be found!
We stayed in the north shore in a beautiful cottage at the end of the road past Hanalei. As much as we loved the relaxed atmosphere, the beaches, snorkeling, and general island feel, we had a TOUGH time finding a good meal in or near Hanalei.
The best meal we had was in Kapa'a at Kintaros - a fantastic sushi place. Also in the same area, Blossoming Lotus - an amazing vegan place was really unique, super fresh and out of this world.
Other than driving to Kapa'a - Hanalei seemed to offer little to no decent food options despite what our guide book said. We were willing to pay for great food but we spent over $75 on 3 dinners at 3 different places that were mediocre at best. Even the most simple "grilled fresh catch of the day, rice and veggies" was just prepared poorly. We also tried cheaper cafe's and delis. Not good.
Pretty disappointing for an area with such fresh local produce, seafood, etc.
My Favorite Hawaiian Island by shipp4911 ,Jan 08 '07
Pros: Gorgeous scenery; interesting activities; romantic Cons: It can be rainy.
I love Kauai. It is the most undeveloped of the islands of Hawaii. You feel as if you have gone on an exotic, adventurous trip, yet at the same time you can enjoy the luxuries of fine dining, gorgeous resorts, and top notch golf.
