Pros: Beautiful, low-key, lots to do, historic Cons: small, can be crowded
As a lifetime resident of the North Shore I thought I'd encourage people to come and visit my small corner of the world. The North Shore is, quite literally, the towns that line the shore north of Boston. This collection of cities includes Salem,...

Pros: beautiful state with many little islands that people don't know about Cons: can only get to some of them by boat
Imagine a little island, out in the middle of nowhere that you can only get to by boat or seaplane. The ferry's that go to the big islands don't even go there. Its so quiet and undisturbed, so very peaceful.
Cuttyhunk Island is a small island a few...

It is hard to find a category that fits the FastLane topic. I have been using FastLane for a while now, and let me tell you, it is great. I never have to carry change for tolls, i can look over my monthly travel expences easily. Right? Wrong. While...

Pros: Good been there done that item Cons: Commercial, small area of interest, not on the way to anything
While randomly cruising around the NE states I happened to end up at Plymouth, MA. After 15 minutes I was ready to leave.
Don't get me wrong: the people are certainly nice enough, and there was pretty scenery, but the area around the boat...

Pros: Beautiful, norman rockwell, skiing, herman melville Cons: NONE
I was surprised when I looked up Massachusetts and did not see the Berkshires on there. Besides Cape Cod, the Berkshires are the most beautiful parts of Massachusetts.
I grew up in Pittsfield which is the center of the Berkshires. Our little...

Pros: top-notch art Cons: vulgarized by the museum
Boston's renowned Museum of Fine Arts typically satiates the summer tourist influx with a blockbuster, massively appealing, easy to digest, marketable artist retrospective. In past years, the museum has gone with Gaugin and John Singer Sargent. This...

Pros: Great setting & views, close to W. Mass. towns Cons: Hilly golf course, need a cart & pricey off the packages
Spring deals, good golf & great rooms at the Cranwell Resort in Lenox (Western Massachusetts). This old estate has rejuvenated itself with several updates to old buildings with re-done rooms with jacuzzi baths, etc.
Cranwell has an 18 hole...

Pros: Great food! Cons: Yet another Chinese restaurant
In this city of 30,000 just outside of Boston and Cambridge the last thing we need is another Asian restaurant. In the past five years this city has seen an explosion in small to medium sized restaurants as the demographics change from elderly to young...

Pros: beautiful ocean scenery, away from the city life, boat trips Cons: not much of a swimming place -- water is cold
Many are not as familiar with Gloucester, Massachusetts as Boston, Springfield, or the Cape Cod region. And for those who have gone through it or know of it, they often think of the Gorton Fisherman -- you know, the fisherman on the Gorton's frozen fish...
