by mrkstvns mrkstvns is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Hotels & Travel, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Jan 15 '00
Pros: close to Baltimore-Washington, great high-speed quad
Cons: weekend crowds, high lift prices, can be icy or slushy
Whitetail ski area is the youngest of the mid-Atlantic ski resorts, having opened about 5 years ago. It's also the closest ski area to Washington D.C. or Baltimore -- only about 90 minutes from either city via interstate highway. The area features 3 ...

One of the Best Ski Escapes on the East Coast!

by nojmplease , Feb 08 '07
Pros: Wide, lengthy runs, efficient chair lifts, new facilities, good discounts, proximity to DC and Baltimore
Cons: Conditions are subject to the merciless whims of midatlantic weather, weekend crowds, not extremely challenging
When it comes to skiing on the intermediate level, I have a fair share of varying experiences at a number of different mountains and resorts. I've skied Colorado, Vancouver (Whistler), Mass./Vermont, Argentina, Chile, Switzerland, Italy, you get the ...

Pros: High-quality skis, roomy, easy access, great classes

Nestled in the Pennsylvania mountains is a wonderful day-tripper ski resort. Catering to skiers of every skill level, but especially nice for the intermediate and advanced skier, Whitetail mountain is one of three Pennsylvania mountains owed and operated...

Good Hills, Bad Mountains

by peteroo , Feb 02 '00
Pros: Green and Blue Slopes are Good
Cons: Hard to Rent Skis
I visited this resort with a group of friends, and seeing that I had only skied once before, I went to the bunny slope. It was not to bad. The only porblem is that there are bad people on there and they slow you down. However, the higher greens and blues...

Pros: Good board park and half-pipe.
Cons: REAL small
So I live in Northern VA, My friend and I want to go boarding but the closest place has no park. So we go to Whitetail. Whitetail in my opinion is only good if you live around it. Yes, I have been to places much, much better but the take at least 5 or 6...

Pros: Close to DC, Good Snowmaking, Organized Well
Cons: Icy, Crowded on Weekends and Holidays
I have look at a lot of the Western resorts recently but now I need to get back to my roots. I learned to ski in the East and I still live in the East. Whitetail is perfect for me when I just want to get my legs warm and give a couple runs a go. The...

by jag-on , Feb 03 '00
Pros: none, besides it an hour and a half from DC
Cons: ICY, EXPENSIVE, NOT WORTH ANY MONEY, BAD LODGE
This is easily the worst ski resort I have ever been to, it is icy beyond belief. There is absolutely no powder, and the snow blowers stink!! There terrain park is terrible and there half pipe is more like a quarter pipe. Not to mention there lodge is a...

by Chick128 , Feb 23 '09
Pros: cheapest in the area, closest to DC area
Cons: day cares and camps aren't professional, overpriced

Very good local ski resort

by ylife02 , Feb 05 '07
Pros: Please see comments noted above.
Cons: Please see comments noted above.
Whitetail is the best ski resort within 3 hours of the Baltimore and Washington D.C. area. You will find different reviews out there - however, keep it in perspective. You can't compare Whitetail to a resort in the west such as Colorado. That would be ...

Whitetail: The Worst Resort on The Mid-Atlantic

by Kevney3885 , Feb 10 '00
Pros: Close to Washington D.C.
Cons: Icy, bad food, bad service, theft
Whitetail resort is a ski resort in Pennsylvania. I just went there for a day to ski last friday. I would not recommend going here. This resort is horrible. There was no power or real snow. The snow was all man-made but it was almost all ice. On top...

Whitetail

by hukedonfonix1 , Jan 31 '00
Pros: Low cost, great time!
Cons: sometimes crowded on weekends
When I arrived I surprised at the simplicity of the resort. You walk right up and get your lift ticket and your off. On the bad side, there are not many lifts which causes traffic and semi-long lines. This was the case for the greens at least.

by mikedrab , Nov 18 '99
Pros: easy runs
Cons: too small
I have spent the last thirteen years of my life skiing a wide variety of ski resorts. I don't even know if whitetail should even be considered a ski resort because of its size. It is probably the smallest place that I have ever skiied. Skiing from the...
