Pros: You never run out of fun things to do. Cons: A lot of traffic on busy holidays
We just love Gatlinburg! There's always so much to do and the skiing was wonderful. We stayed in a beautiful very unique chalet called Alpine Lover's Penthouse. It has a huge "heart shaped bed"!! We rented it through a website www.gatlinburgromance.com and the company we rented it through, Heritage Rentals, was just great.
Fun afternoon for Kids and Adults by smilingsteeles ,Jun 18 '05
Pros: Caters to all ages Cons: Could be really expensive
We didn't plan on going here in our vacation plans. Once we got to Gatlinburg we saw the brochure and decided why not. My kids really enjoyed the ride to the top. I think it was worth the money to do once. My son who is 8 really liked this place. I enjoyed it because it wasn't as big as Six Flags which meant you didn't have to walk so much. My son who is 4 loved the train and kiddie land so he spent much of his time there. In all I guess we spent about 3 or 4 hours there and the kids and husband enjoyed themselves. We spent around $50 that including the ride up. To me that says it all with a family of 5. I would highly recommend it for someone who has never been. I can't imagine going all the time though.
Pros: Unique ride up to the park. Cons: way way overpriced!
Yesterday I went to Ober Gatlinburg with my 7 and 12 year old. I paid $25 for the 2.1 mile "air tram" up to the park. The first thing we saw was the ice rink so I let my son try to skate (he lasted about 10 minutes) that cost $12... $$7.50 to skate and 3.50 for a pair of cheaply made socks. No anything came with getting in the park. To ride the few rides they had was going to cost another $50 to $60 for us! I was aggravated and not happy after paying to get there they were going to charge $6.60 for 3 Coke's! Anyway...If you don't mind spending a couple hundred dollars for a few hours of entertainment, knock yourself out, but if you want a fair price go elsewhere. The only flat out bad thing was the trolley conductor was asked to repeat an answer on the way down and smarted off to a big guy with a ponytail with "if you didn't hear it the first time, too bad...I don't say it but once ". I expected him to get whipped for about 30 seconds. (they also leave you with no receipt)
Please do not waste your time. by j_monty ,Apr 08 '09
Pros: You can throw yourself into the bear habitat. Cons: Waste of money ($10/awful tram ride), horrendous tourist trap.
The tram blew a fuse on the way up, leaving us stranded for 15-20 minutes mid-ride. The actual "attraction," once we got there, had NOTHING at all special other than a bear "habitat," which I could swear also exists IN THE MOUNTAINS, except bigger, natural, and cruelty-free.
Then, because the tram was still broken, we waited in a long line for a short bus to shuttle us down the mountain. Yes, there were two 14-passenger buses running on rides of 15 minutes down the mountain and 15 minutes up, with several hundred people waiting in line.
