Liner Note Authors: Adem Ilhan; Sam Jeffers; Jeremy DeVine; Jason Evans; Kieran Hebden; Trevor Jackson. Recording information: 03/1996-04/1998. Before Kieran Hebden became the electro maestro Four Tet, and Adem Ilhan segued toward conventional pop songwriting, their early collaborations as Fridge produced this charmingly rudimentary slab of experimental post-rock, which speaks to an era when bands like Tortoise and Trans AM were funneling the influence of everything from jazz to Fugazi. There are straight-ahead guitar-and-drums numbers like the Don Caballero-esque "A Swerve And A Spin," but the highlights are the different takes on hallmark genres, like the schizo-funk of "For Force" and the rat-a-tat reworking of ambient on "Astrozero." |
