The Raspberries: Eric Carmen, Wally Bryson (guitar); Dave Smalley (bass guitar); Jim Bonfanti (drums). Additional personnel: Paul Sidoti, Billy Sullivan, Jennifer Lee (background vocals). Capturing the classic power-pop band's 2005 reunion with its original line-up, this excellent 13-track set is as clean and crisp as the suits the band so often wore. All the hits are here--including "Tonight," "I Wanna Be With You," and "Go All the Way"--and the band sounds energized and delighted to be performing together, with lead singer Eric Carmen crooning in a respectably strong voice throughout. The Raspberries always had the perfect name for a power-pop band, as they were deliciously sweet, but had just enough of a tart attack to avoid sugar shock. And as this set so aptly proves, the Raspberries remain in season. |
