| Jaguars least-expensive car is virtually unchanged for 2003. The X-Type is based on the European Mondeo sedan from Jaguar-parent Ford, though it has its own styling, dimensions, and comes standard with all-wheel drive vs. Mondeos front-wheel drive. Rival Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz models offer AWD at extra cost. The base 2.5 X-Type uses a 2.5-liter V6 with manual transmission or optional 5-speed automatic. The uplevel 3.0 model has a 3.0 V6 and automatic transmission; it offers the manual at no extra charge. Antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, leather-and-wood interior trim, front side airbags, and head-protecting curtain side airbags are standard. The Sport Package option adds unique trim, sport suspension, and 17-inch wheels, which for 2003 replace 16s as standard on 3.0 models. An antiskid system is part of the Sport Package and is a stand-alone option. Available for all X-Types are xenon headlamps, navigation and rear-obstacle-warning systems, and heated front seats.
