Recorded in 1968. Includes liner notes by Brion Gysin, Brian Jones, William Burroughs and Stephen Davis. The Moroccan Master Musicians of Jajouka have fascinated American and British hipsters over the years--including William Burroughs, Ornette Coleman, and, as this great album testifies, original Rolling Stone Brian Jones. Despite his seminal contributions to the Stones, Jones never got to do much on his own during his short life. But this unique documentary recording mostly makes up for that. True, there are any number of trippy post-production touches, especially the generous amount of stereo "phasing." But this only enhances the experience rather than diminishes it. Highlight: the magically dancing flute on the reprise of "Your Eyes Are a Cup Of Tea." |
