Solex: Elisabeth Esselink. Additional personnel includes: Andrew Blick (trumpet); Robert Lagendijik (drums). Recorded at Aftrap Studios, Amsterdam, Holland in 2001. LOW KICK HARD BOP is the third offering from Dutch multi-intrumentalist Solex, aka Elisabeth Esselink. In keeping with her usual M.O., Esselink takes a considerable amount of artistic licence in that she doesn't so much write songs as she haphazardly weaves tapestries of artful noise paired with her cold, disconnected almost childlike vocals. Of course, given the fact that Esselink is a former record shop owner, she clearly had lots of material at her disposal from which she could mash up and sample. |
