More Information
Details: Curve: Toni Halliday (vocals); Dean Garcia (guitar, keyboards, bass, drum programming); Debbie Smith, Alex Mitchell, Alan Moulder (guitar); Monti (drums). Recorded at Todal Studios in Kilburn during July and October, 1991. Following the indie chart success of several style-defining singles and EPs, British shoegaze band Curve released DOPPELGANGER, their 1992 debut album. Combining candy-coated pop with a whirlpool of feedback and noise, the album achieved a surprisingly rapturous commercial response at the dawn of the grunge era. Mining similar territory to the torrential guitar squall of groups like My Bloody Valentine, Ride, and Chapterhouse, the band added propulsive electronic beats and the comely vocals of singer Toni Halliday, lending a glossy pop appeal to otherwise unrelentingly strident aural textures.
