Details: When a rich automobile tycoon decided to dredge a leisure-lovers' playground out of Biscayne Bay, Miami Beach was born. After the fallout of a depression and a devastating hurricane in the late 1920s, much of Miami Beach was rebuilt in the Art Deco style, with its streamlined forms and pastel colors. Today the city boasts an active arts community that has contributed works including a 300-by-125-foot beach sculpture installation based on locally discovered archaeological forms.
