| mariamclellan's Full Review: Nursing Profession |
As Andrew described in his article, nursing is a tough profession at the moment. The reason why there is a current nursing shortgage is that a lot of us nurses that have been in the field at least fifteen years, found today's nursing to be extremely off the mark. It was never intended to leave the bedside: this is where we are trained to care for people. What we end up doing is answering phones, maintenance, housekeeping & a lot more than that. There is no respect left: as seen by the other therapies
leaving nursing to do their work. All the public sees is nurses being
money hungry & strike. They never see why: the mandatory OT, the unsafe
patient to nurse ratios. This is not acceptable to our code of ethics
& yet the money hungry health care companies & HMO's are respected.
What would leave a nurse to stay in that mess? RN's like myself, have
been there & done it for years. Not any more, there are nurses in new
businesses, real estate, health& nutrition. I say way to go nurses.
Don't go down with the ship as usual.
