E-commerce has made significant progress recently. Unfortunately, iOwn.com has not kept up with the pace of change. My husband and I recently financed our first mortgage through iOwn.com. We strongly recommend to others to find a different broker.
During the application process the company was very helpful and had good customer service. However, once an application is filed the company puts its customers through a series of hand-offs to various "specialists". The communication between these people was not good and many items fell through the cracks.
Unfortunately we found out about several important items that had not been communicated between people at iOwn, the lender, and us three days before the deal was to close. The last 72 hours before the close were very stressful and the people at iOwn did not work to resolve the situation in a professional manner. At several points, the representatives at iOwn were very rude to my husband, our realtor, and myself.
We ultimately had to involve their senior management to find a solution so our loan could fund and we could purchase the house. Their solution created additional costs and headaches for us.
Mortgages can be complicated — although ours was a very simple deal. Until companies like iOwn can find a way to add value to the process by providing better service and expertise on par with a local mortgage broker, I will not trust an on-line mortgage broker with something as important as financing a home.
