You have wonderful travelling tips. thanks a lot. though, I still have a question: how to keep a 3 months old busy and quite on the 10 hour flight and 20 hour trip?
A would appreciate any suggestions. My e-mail is oksana_melnyk@yahoo.com

Very Informative and helpful (Reply to this comment)

I am planning on taking a plane trip shortly with two little ones. One 6 months and the other 3 years. I now know what to do for her but what about the 3 year old. Any advice?? Who knows maybe you can write some more on your review. Another question will the crew help me with getting from one plane to another with two children?

Super Article! (Reply to this comment)

Thanks Rob, for clearing up the information on my earlier comment. This epinion is chock full of great information -- anyone traveling with little ones would do well to take heed! I'm pleased to give this a whole-hearted HR!
My own best tips include taking finger snacks, bottles or sipper cups, and of course, a few favorite (and one new)toys and books to help pass the time. The BEST scenario involves grandparents in another row who will give you a break!

Some clarifying... (Reply to this comment)
by dannyzmom
Continental offers lower prices for a seat for your child under age 2...but certainly not 10%, it's more like 30-40% off the regular peice. If you do not get a seat for your baby:
a) you pay nothing,
b) your baby is not very safe in case of turbulence

Much of your information was good (Reply to this comment)
by travelmom
But some was inaccurate, or only partially accurate. In my 9 to 5 life, I'm a travel agent, so I work with all of the airlines at one time or another. There are NO airlines that will actually reserve or hold a seat for you if you haven't paid for it. What frequently happens is that on a plane that has three seats to a side, the middle seats are the last be be assigned, since no one likes the middle seats. That means that on a flight that isn't full, you have a decent chance that the middle seat next to you might be still available.
I completely agree with the other members who said that infants and toddlers should be in car seats on a plane. We are responsible for their safety, and the best way to do that is to buckle them into their car seat. Their safety is surely worth the cost of their seat.
And speaking of that cost: The 10% fare that you mentioned only applies to international fares. Infants (children under the age of two years) are usually charged 10% of the adult fare to fly as a "lap baby" on an international flight. On domestic flights, if you are not buying a seat for them, infants may stay in your lap for free. Nearly all of the airlines offer infants a seat for 50% off the adult fare for domestic flights.
If you decide to go back and revise your epinion to correct this information, please e-mail me, and I'll be happy to rerate.

Great Advice! (Reply to this comment)
by AmyLEnsor
I flew with my six month old baby and bought her a full priced ticket (well, through Priceline, so it wasn't too bad). I ended up with her on my lap most of the time, but was still glad I had the extra room, especially when my flight turned out to be overbooked. The first seat on the first leg of my trip had the kind of armrest that couldn't be moved and I had to practically wedge the carseat in there sideways, so I don't know how safe it was. Still, I put her in it and gave her a bottle of breastmilk. After that, I just gave up and nursed her in my lap during takeoff which I hadn't planned to do.

OUTSTANDING REVIEW!
I wont comment on the seat issue as I have not had to travel with baby yet, but, I think on a long flight I would definately want him in one for safety and comfort.
I loved the "reserve the seat idea", i loved that you thought of breast feeding mothers, I think it was a very thorough review!

Actually all the flights I've been on (Reply to this comment)
by jnbmoore
we've only really had to pay about 50% to guarentee a seat for my monkey.
Please see my flying comfortably review for more reasons why you NEED a seat for your child.
Plus if your child is crawling or toddling, being one of the last on the plane works MUCH better. They can play and use up their energy. Otherwise they are that small space for another 20-30 minutes -- however long it takes to board.
Like I said I already wrote an epinion on this. so I won't repeat it.
Just wish your review had a bit more of your personal experience in it.

Enjoyed your review however.... (Reply to this comment)

I must disagree with one statement. I firmly believe a separate seat for a baby with an approved "car seat" makes a very SIGNIFICANT safety difference.
If you've ever endured a flight with turbulance or a "rough" landing you will understand exactly what I mean. I spent some time researching the impact of seating and child injury during flight back in the early 90's and from what I read determined I would never fly again without a safety seat for my under 40lb children. Thanks for taking the time to share some great tips and information.
