Disney perks from an Orlando Native!!!

Jan 28 '00

I have lived in Orlando for 29 years a grew up with Mickey Mouse as a neighbor and have learned many tricks that I am sure would help out anyone visiting Disney!!!!
Parking and Hungry and not staying on Disney property???
Go to one of the great on Disney property hotels buffets for breakfast or lunch, as they are great and many with characters and be sure to check out the pool areas and enjoy each hotel, as they are there own little theme parks. After lunch, use the transportation provided by bus or monorail to go to the parks and that will save you the parking fee if you leave your car at the hotel guest parking.

Not too into parades???
Thats the best time to go on the rides while everyone is along the street waiting on the parade -- also lunch and dinner time is easy time to get on rides.

When do the Natives go????
When the tourists are gone!!!!! After new years til just the beginning of most spring breaks is good. Also After school starts til right before Thanks giving is great-- both times offer cooler weather and shorter lines.

Use the reservations for meals and the rides as they do save time unless you like to eat very late or wait in long lines and most of the parks and certainly hotels can let you use there phone for meal reservations even up to the last minute. Even make meal reservations for 1 month in advance before your trip.

If you are a Tourist who is a Florida resident-- ask for the Florida resident rates on everything!!!! You need to definately ask as Disney will not just tell you!!!

The best place to watch fireworks is one the beach at the Polynesian Hotel, as it over looks the lake, the Magic Kingdom, Grand Floridian and Contemporary Hotels and is much more relaxing and alot less crowded than straining to see and fighting the crowd that is being shuffled to the exit as they watch them in the Magic Kingdom (also very romantic).

Unless you like to get ripped off, and have your own car or rental car, buy film and gas, any other things you need outside Disney property as the mark up is in some places 200%. Just on the out skirts of Kissimmee or International Drive is 200% less expensive plus you get to see alot or other areas of interest. Trust me on this one for sure!!! I kick myself everytime I run out of gas on Disney Property or need film!!!!

Use the entrance to Epcot via the Boardwalk Hotel--its a short senic walk but redirects you away from the crowded front until you want to see that area!!! This puts you next to Paris and United Kingdom when you arrive.
And if you drink(alcohol) your way around the countries, be sure to have a designated walker to remember where you parked!!! But the best way to sample to food from each is to get a snack at each country from the carts outside each country.

Be sure to visit Downtown Disney (east and west sides), all 3 water parks(Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon are the better ones but River Country is the small less crowded one), take a day class at the Disney Institute(yes, we have rock climbing in Orlando at Disney), check out the pool at the Yacht and Beach Club Hotels(sand bottom lagoon with slides), Disney Quest is a must if you like video games that you ride on and in, Bongo's restaurant (Gloria Estefan's Cuban restaurant)has alot of celebrities dining or dancing to salsa on most of my visits, go off Disney property for alcohol as drinks are VERY expensive in Pleasure Island and restaurants, our son could not get enough of Neverland Club at the Polynesian Hotel(babysitting at its finest and kids do not feel babysat but as there own night out)!! reservations are a must there.
Disney can be done on 150.00 or less a day if you do it right and stay at the AllStar Hotels and take advantage of the Disney Hotels pools as entertainment and relaxing as most offer waterslides. They offer free entertainment you just have to look for it(not including park ticket prices)
Disney is a magical place and even as a neighbor to the parks, each trip is exciting-- if you get bored--- you are not familiar with everything they have to offer!!!
Just think like a native!!! Unless you are Trumps relative or your last name is Rockafeller!
