The best way to stay at Disney World
Nov 20 '00
About 6 months ago, my parents bought into the Disney timeshare called the Disney Vacation Club (DVC). They bought through a resale agency and got a very good deal. (See my other Epinion regarding purchasing via a resale). Last week, they took themselves and my family (myself, my wife, an 11 year old, and twin 4 year olds) for a week at DVC. Here are my experiences.
With the number of points they purchased, they were able to get a 2 bedroom facility at the Old Key West location. This location is on the grounds of Disney World. They are along the same road the other Disney hotels are located (Port Orleans and the soon to be defunct Dixie Landings). Anyway, the two bedroom facility has a master bedroom with a king bed, jacuzzi, and full bath. The second bedroom has two queen beds and a full bath. Then there is the full kitchen, fully equipped, as well as the 'great room' (the combination living room and dining room). The living room is equipped with a love seat and sofa. The sofa is a sleeper sofa, hence the entire unit can sleep 8. Since we are 7, that worked out pretty well.
The facility has everything you could want. There are pools and play grounds all over, a very good restaurant (Olivia's), the standard giftshop which also sells food items, a small bar, and a community room where there are activities for kids.
Back to the 'apartment'. It had everything we needed. Staying in the timeshare gave us the opportunity to eat breakfast in the room every day and save big $$ over what breakfast at the hotels would have cost us. It gave us the ability to stretch out and be much more comfortable than getting a couple of hotel rooms. It became our home away from home.
I HIGHLY recommend to anyone that visits Disneyworld on a fairly regular basis to check out the Disney Vacation Club. Old Key West is one of 3 current, and soon to be 4 different locations on property. Each has a distinctly different character to them. Each will fit family or group perfectly.
I can't think of a better way to 'stay' at Disneyworld!
