I read a brief article on this specific ad, saying that many people felt that guns were not appropriate for a television ad in the wake of various school shootings... There is no reason that guns are as a general rule inappropriate. They certainly have potentially negative uses, but so do many other things. Columbine specifically was mentioned... two violent and inappropriate children should not have this type of effect. They committed a horrible act, but we cannot live our lives in fear or hatred because of an anomaly. I feel deep sympathy for all affected by Columbine, but too many people have bought into the media's story that Littleton, Colorado affects them personally. Should we outlaw trench coats too? At some point, people need to realize that random acts of violence shouldn't have this great an effect on our culture. I feel wholeheartedly that this ad SHOULD be run, specifically because it will help break the unnecessary and useless taboo that persists.
