I'm an Information Systems Director for a company in NJ. I do some programming in FoxPro and SQL, but my main expertise lies in Networking.
Now, because one-third of my day is computers, the last thing I wanted to do was buy a home computer and have it be the center of another one-third of my life. Well, I was resisting the idea until two years ago when I bought my first computer for home. Guess what? My life is now totally entangled with this thing like I predicted.
How I Rate Reviews:

HR - Very thorough, well written, makes me laugh or smile, makes me stop and think, or any combination of the aforementioned.
R - I still have a lot of questions that you should have covered. A good effort but could be better. Most one paragraph reviews will probably get this rating from me.
SR - You didn't even try to cover the topic. You wrote, "this is good" or, "this is bad" and you didn't bother to explain why. Anything technically inaccurate or obvious bad advice (especially regarding computers).
NR - You're a racist, a bigot, or you personally attacked another community member. Any TOS violation.
If I Don't Rate A Review:

There are rare instances where I won't rate a review. If the piece is a really well written load of poo-poo then I cannot in good conscience recommend it. Therefore I reserve the right not to rate it at all.
Regarding The Products I Write About:

As a rule, I either own or have extensively used all the products and services I write about. I personally feel that this gives what I have to say about something more credability than someone who doesn't own the product and is writing a review based on the specs alone.
My Web Of Trust:

Good writers that consistently tell it as they see it. I don't always agree with them, but I'm sure I'm getting an honest opinion. It's the quality of the person, not the quality of the review that prompts me to add to my WOT.
My Web Of Distrust:

My WOD is purposely empty for a reason. In order for me to trust someone on Epinions I have to really read a lot of what that person has written, and that's exactly what I do. Similarly, I would have to do the same for someone I distrust. Since I am not willing to sit down and read a whole bunch of crappy stuff written by one person just to add him/her to my WOD, I don't use it. Besides, aren't reveiws that are rated 'HR' enough to determine whether or not something is good?
Epinions Content Filter:

I refuse to use it. I believe in freedom of choice. In order for me to have my freedom of choice, I need all the choices in front of me. I have a brain and I use it everyday. Because of this, I don't need an algorythm written by a dweeb with an overstuffed pocket protector to help me to decide what I should and should not read. I think I'm pretty capable of doing that on my own.
