Presently, I hold an Advisor hat, and Top Reviewer hat in Kids & Family. I'm proud of these accomplishments and enjoy the camaraderie that membership brings. Yet, I'm saddened when members take the site too seriously, or the opposite, they fabricate reviews in an attempt to poke fun at other members, or a specific category. For me, Epinions is a place in which members can express their opinions about products, and where one might convey their thoughts in the Writer's Corner. I’m all for well-constructed pieces of humor, and sarcasm, but consider fictitious reviews useless. Such reviews will receive a Not Helpful rating from me, and I generally will not comment.
Speaking of comments… I believe the role of Advisor is to inform, to enlighten, and to offer support. I rate product reviews on how helpful I think they will be to end-users. I don’t rate on whether I agree with the reviewer, or not. If you have received a Somewhat Helpful rating from me, don’t be discouraged. My initial postings were abysmal at best. In addition, I encourage new members get to know their way around the site by visiting the Member Center. Peruse the Best of the Best section. Reading some of the Most Popular Reviews, and the Top Reviewers in a category might give you ideas about content, and format.
