If you want to build a webpage, Yahoo! Geocities is a good place to start out. Just sign up for an account and you are on your way. They have templates to choose from to create a nice looking page for the beginner, or if you are more experienced, you can build your page using html. Also, if you already have a website somewhere else, they have the means to move it to Yahoo! Geocities.
Yahoo! Geocities is divided into several themed communities. Each community is geared to a different interest. The areas range from Wall Street, to Hollywood, to Area 21 and many more in between. There are 41 communities in all.
There are neighborhood chats, and clubs where you can ask for help with any problems you may be having. You will also get your free email address @Yahoo.com along with your free webpage.
They offer 15 megabytes of disk space for your website. This should be an ample amount for most sites. If you need more space, you can also sign up for the GeoPlus Premium Membership and get several extras.
With the GeoPlus Premium Membership, you get 25 megabytes, extra subdirectory levels, access to CGI and Java Applet libraries and more. They offer a 30 day free trial of the GeoPlus Premium Membership provided you are at least 18 years old and pay with a credit card. If you do this and decide you don't want to keep the membership, you must remember to cancel it or your credit card will be billed.
Yahoo! Geocities has lots of extra features you can add to your website. You can add guestbooks, counters, messageboards, forms, search boxes and much more.
I would recommend Yahoo! Geocities over many of the other free webspace providers because of it's ease of use and functionality. Yahoo! Geocities is simple to use, even for beginners, and is functional enough for even more experienced users.
With the hundreds of free webspace providers available, I feel that this is one of the better ones.
