About 7 months ago, I went in search of purchasing a new printer (upgrading from an HP 682C). At first (and glad I decided to research a little more later on) I wanted the HP 970Cse. After doing some price shopping, and coming up with Egghead.com as the cheapest price (by far, actually), and figuring when they had the retail stores, I had good luck with them, so why not. BIG MISTAKE!
I ordered online, and figured, okay, this is e-commerce, should be pretty quick and reliable. I was in for a rude awakening!
I placed my order, felt confident everything was okay, and went about my business. Days later, I thought, wow, I still haven't heard back from Egghead.com, maybe I should check my order. That's strange, order still hasn't shipped, yet it said it would ship in 24 hours.
Finally, after a few more days, I contacted them. Response back was very generic about "we had server downs, order got misplaced, shipping it out right away". Now, I work in retail, and I know from experience, when a customer feels cheated, or misled in anyway, they usually get some compensation for the time and frustration set forth. Not in this case, they decide to re-process the order, again, it may take a few days (could have sent it overnight for free at this point to make me happy).
A few more days pass, still no package, no update on status. Okay, e-mail them again. No response this time. One e-mail, this time a pretty nasty one, telling them I'll contact Better Business Bureau if they don't refund my money at this point. Same generic response "we had problems with our servers, will reprocess order, OR you can resubmit the order, get charged a second time for the same order, and we'll eventually cancel old order". (I don't think so, you want to charge me again, and hope that it gets processed right this time, and hope that the other order cancels, I think not!)
Now, at this time, I just want my money back, be done with the experience, and move on with my life. The "can't refund my money, it takes time to process these things, and we're sorry about that". attitude I got really annoyed me, and I was not at all happy with that response.
Finally, I contacted the Better Business Bureau. Amazing how quickly you get a phone call (yes, a real live person this time) when you call in the big guns. She doesn't want my experience with this incident to deter me from ordering from Egghead.com again, so she's going to send me a $10 coupon for further purchases. I received the $10 coupon in my e-mail a few days later, and still refuse to use the coupon!
I will never recommend, nor do business with Egghead.com again. But I will say this much, I'm glad that I didn't let my first ordering experience with e-commerce deter me, because I've had great luck with other companies.
I really hate to down someone when they try, but honestly, I don't feel that Egghead.com tried in that situation at all, until after the fact.
